Take that
This is a reader's comment on my blog penaltyshots.ca from pre-game yesterday. The post had nothing to do with the Leafs, but instead why the Oilers Ethan Moreau was named Captain in the middle of a stretch where he has missed 106 regular season games and counting, but someone felt the need to take a shot at God's team:
"I am more stumped over a Toronto pp that was 1st overall 3 yrs ago, that today with basically the same personnel can barely penetrate the neutral zone against the formidable(joke,in case your stumped) Bruins
I am even more stumped that Maurice is the best available for the job, given this performance,or any other standards the leafs have been unable to meet during his tenure
I know what I would do with your stump, should you become unstumped and it involves _____jfj and pm, u can use your imagination to fill in the blank"penaltyshots.ca
This was my resonse:

"Maybe that is why so many Leafs fans not named Simmons or Cox, are starting to become so optomistic about this team. Winners of 4/5 with a better commitment to defense, a goalie making more saves, leading the league in even strength goals, and an experienced power play that is a when not an if, they have good reason to be so."
What can I say? 2/3 on the PP against Tampa. I hope some legs get broke with all the hopping back on the bandwagon as we march to 4-2-1 on our road trip! Should JFJ be fired if it turns out he has built a good team? Of course not.

The Bruins
are 17-10-3. They might actually be a good team. Some nights a powerplay will struggle against a good defensive team. Especially one that stands up at the blueline and takes away the Leafs' favoured entry to the zone of Kaberle carrying the puck in.
Also, if the Leafs make the playoffs then there will be a case for keeping JFJ but I think his overall track record is one that adds up to him being given a pat on the back and best wishes in the future.
