Trade Sundin? NFW
For a while there I thought it may be a good idea to trade Sundin to a team where he could win the Stanley Cup. Trade Sundin for his own good, is what that position is called. Then I realized that I, and any other who holds that position, have been "pissing and missing the pot". Here's why: Let's say Sundin agreed to be traded (NFW, he says), what would guarantee that he'd come back? Nothing, especially once he realizes that the grass is indeed greener on the other side of the fence. If he won the Cup with another team, which would be the objective we say, there would be even less of a chance that he would agree to come back.
Then there's the issue of the team who takes him. Would they want him to go away after he helps them win a Cup. Would you? NFW.
Hopefully the Leafs will act with some class and will leave him alone. He deserves it.

Stay or Go, I support whatever he chooses
The guy has earned the choice thats for sure. Personally, while it'd be great to see him go, I'd love to see him finish out his career having never left the Leafs.
There is an article up on my site about this very issue:
Some Fans Should Be Ashamed For Attitude On Sundin
It really makes me wonder how some people can be so eager to see this guy go, or worse yet, claim they'll turn on him if he doesn't waive his NTC.
The guy IS the Leafs. Let him stay in peace.

Who's Losing Respect?
As fans, we all want Mats to stay. He is the best player ever to don the blue and white and he has done more than enough for the franchise.
However, you can get away from the fact that he is also probably going to be the most sought after commodity at the trade deadline and moving him could bring in the kind of assets that could get the Leafs competitive again before he has to retire.
Also, moving him does not preclude him returning to the Leafs after the season is over. The team he goes to might want to keep him but all Mats talks about is how much he loves Toronto and that he never wants to leave so why not take a vacation for a couple of months to ensure the long-term health of the franchise?
In the end it's his decision and whatever he does it won't change my view of him but at the same time you can't let one player become more important than the club. Sir Alex Ferguson takes that view with Manchester United and it's worked pretty well for them so far.

Eager to see him go?
People aren't eager to see him go, people want to see him do what will be of most benefit to the Leafs and accept a trade and then return.
Fans look at what he has said about loving Toronto and wanting to retire a Maple Leaf and they see accepting a trade as his way of doing the best for the franchise.
If he stays I won't lose respect for the best Leaf ever but it will definitely be a lost opportunity.
