FTB - Oh, losing. Right.

With the Leafs now on pace for only 41 wins and 82 points, the season has taken a darker turn.

Anyhow, happy Thanksgiving to all of you Canadians out there. I'm making a turkey in your honor this afternoon, and I'll use it to wash the taste of failure out of my mouth. A reminder, tomorrow's game is at 1:00PM EST, so I'll be at work instead of watching. Crap.

Well for me, tomorrow is Columbus Day, so i’ll be able to watch it.

Schenn playing though, might not be the worst, since it could just make him even more hungry for next season.

You should have asked

What their policy on Columbus Day was. You’re not a Clydesdale after all.

Blake's

fist pump while down 6-1 was real icing on the cake for me. No matter the cost, no matter the cap hit, we should hve bought that complete and total piece of garbage out.

Especially

since Antropov handed him a goal to make it 1-0 and Blake’s limp wrists couldn’t finish. He sickens me.

fist pump etiquette that’s for sure.

celebration etiquette

It’s generally considered bad form to celebrate too much when all you do is narrow a big deficit – in baseball, for example, don’t be too proud of your effort if you hit a home run that makes a score 8 to 2 instead of 8 to 1, for example. If you are still losing by a ton it’s pretty silly to be all “look at me, I did something wonderful!” if the team is still in big losing trouble.

We should send Jason Blake to live on a farm.

Blake is a gem!

Keep Blake on the roster until the Leafs land Tavares. Blake keep up the good work!!!!

Tank Nation!

Hey remember despite the bravado coming from some corners of the Leaf dressing room, this team was built to tank. Stripped of most veterans, $13 million below the cap, and only one high end prospect on the roster, the Leafs performed as expected last night. Sure we will see some good nights like last Thursday, but good teams play like that on a consistent basis and not once every five games. Mats stay away! Cliff get that 91 jersey ready for Tavares!

Can we talk about what the Leafs need to do in order to properly and soundly rebuild without calling it “tanking”? The whole idea of purposefully sinking a season, I hate so much. In related news, Happy Thanksgiving Barilko-friends.

I’ll be wearing my Steen jersey, frowning in front of the TV a lot this year, but at the end of the day this team is going to stink stink stink.

It’s easier to accept if you realize that we’re going to get a good first rounder, and continue the rebuild. 2010 and 2011 have some hot UFAs on the market, so I think two or three seasons of “bad” followed by some cash money signings and our draft picks coming into their own should make that about the right time to no longer be rebuilding.

So don’t call it tanking. How do you describe a team that intentionally ices an inferior team? How do you describe a team that is the richest in the NHL but 25th in salaries? How do you describe a team that decides to wait a season to hire a general manager and go the year with an interim GM? How do you describe a team that loses its #1 centre and leading scorer and decides not to replace him? Yes they do have a plan in place to get better. But that plan includes being real bad this year. If that’s not tanking what is it?
