i forgot to pick anything for their NYR and PIT games, of course, i’d proabably still only have two points, but i digress…

Anybody throws me against the boards I'm gonna piss all over myself.

I've only made picks

For the Detroit, Rangers and Ducks games

Anti-Leaf ways? No one would be happier than me if my strategy stopped working.

There’s voting like a fan, and there’s winning your pool. Can’t do both.

But

Picking something NOT to happen requires very little acumen. The odds of the team not scoring in a period are so much greater than that of any one individual that the probabilities of pick SPG are now all screwed up with this new option.

Somebody who did better than a 51 in Grade 10 math crunch the numbers and back me up here.

yeah I was surprised that a will not happen gets counted as a point if correct..

Yeah

We are working on how to address that.

Personally, I wouldn’t change it. If people want, they can pick the Leafs never to score again and the challenge comes out of the other two. If the Leafs figure out where their hands are, this might not matter so much.

Remember the days when you weren’t allowed to have Gretzky in your pool?

Yes and no – it depends on the rarity of the event. You’d almost never pick ‘nobody’ for shots on goal, for example. The odds of that are far worse than the 1-in-18 you get out of a random pick.

Given the Leafs’ offense or lack thereof, it’s the only safe choice for first goal, though.

WNH

Two weeks into the season, I think changing the scoring methodology outright could piss off a lot of people. Bait-and-switch.

As PPP and I were working this out over the summer, it seemed like a good idea. Maybe it wasn’t.

That said, each Leafs fan who picks SPG has the same opportunity to pad their scores with WNHs as Chemmy.

I could, however, implement whatever changes you all want w/r/t the PPP league… independent of the rest of the site.

If you don’t want WNH to count, I can just do the math without them. It won’t affect the site-wide scores or standings, but it could greatly affect the outcome of your league.

Thoughts?

Don’t change it. If the Leafs had one guy scoring half their goals, would it be wrong to pick him all the time?

WNH is just a reflection of the way the Leafs are playing right now.

Personally I’d like it if we just made each “WNH” in the goal column worth 0.5 points.

1967ers has a point

Everyone has equal opportunity to choose WNH as their result and betray Leafs Nation equally.

Please share your thoughts people.

Agree with ‘67. Don’t change it. Chemmy was the first to figure it out as a strategy, he deserves to be in first. It’s not a loophole, it’s just smart. But the Leafs are going to get goals this year, hopefully about one a period, so it’ll even out a bit too eventually.

Your intuitive comprehension of WNH vs. the Leafs scoring is what my strategy hinges on.

And a good strategery it was. I’m not copying because that’s cheatin’.

by 1967ers on Oct 22, 2008 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m not copying it ‘cause I’m using SPG as a personal test of my pschic intuition. So far I’m getting a lot of the right names, but in the wrong position. I had Antropov for penalty in the 1st and 3rd last game.

I also had Colaiacovo for all 3 in OT and he was a scratch so…
