What bothers me is that tv-commentators do announce Vesa Toskala with double s's
Like Vessa Toskala.Vesa is knows Finnish name but vessa on the contrary means toilet in Finnish.

PPP, didn’t someone say the logo/your avatar kinda looked like a goalie trying to sit on a toilet? It all makes sense now!

hahaha
Yeah, someone said it looked like a goalie taking a dump. Considering that it’s Raycroft in the logo I think it’s apropos.

Raycroft? I thought it was just a generic Leafs goalie

If you squint, you can see that they used Raycroft as the inspiration.

OK, I have sort of an answer.
Doesn’t sound like English is particularly good at the distinction, but the accent really has to go on the first syllable. Apparently, we do a much better job of that sound in “Esa”, as in Tikkanen, but I can’t say I hear the difference.
Less emphasis on the s – that’s all it takes.
