FTB - Two More Nights Of Toronto Being Undefeated
Ah yes, the beautiful thing that is being able to look at the standings page and see a big fat "0" in the loss column. Enjoy it my friends, because just like the autumn leaves as soon as you get used to it, it'll be gone.
- Godd Till is actually a little off base. I think anyone who reads about hockey on the internet hates the Vancouver Canucks.
- General Borschevsky writes about the longest serving Leafs.
- Steve@Hockeyanalysis thinks that sending Bell to the minors might not be all bad. He's probably correct that Wilson doesn't like Bell. Poor guy.
- David Johnson is cautiously optimistic for the upcoming season.
- Better to make the right decision on a captain than make a snap decision.
- TSM listened to Leonsis' interview and found some interesting nuggets that apply to the Leafs.
- I can't begin to imagine what a photoshop of this would look like.
- Did Harold Ballard have a heart? MF37 investigates. Spoiler Alert: not really.
- Kim Jorn is making the case for Schenn sticking around.
- Leafs unveil their new third jersey. I could have sworn I read about that a long time ago...

Ain't this the truth.
Here’s a quick memo for the next Canucks fans who wants to razz me over a beer. Here are the teams that Leafs fans hate:
1. Montreal Canadiens
2. Ottawa Senators
3. Philadelphia Flyers
4. Toronto Maple Leafs
———
345. Cleveland Crusaders
346. Belleville Bulls
347. Cracovia Krakow
348. Vancouver Canucks
349. Miller Chev-Olds Midnight Marauders

amen, brothers
I really liked this passage:
an irrational hatred of the Leafs that means you have to take crap about 1967 from fans of a franchise that have never won anything. This is like Dane Cook ragging on Gene Hackman’s acting career. I mean, he hasn’t won Best Actor since 1971! What a loser!
Making stuff up since real Leafs news is far too depressing
BWAHAHAHA
I missed that the Leafs are # 4.

only in vancouver?
Really liked the post by Godd.
I haven’t seen much reaction to Luongo being named Captain in Vancouver but I think it’s ridiculous. Goalies can’t cross the blue line and approach the ref at the half-circle near the penalty box. Goalies can’t encourage the troops on the bench. Goalies can’t delegate important instructions from the coach to players on the fly.
The Canucks are going to be really bad this year if Luongo is the most “qualified” to wear a C.

Good thing you didn’t see the original draft where I called goalies oddballs and weirdos who are socially awkward and not like the rest of us!

If that were the case
Me and LD would be the 1A and 1B goalies for team Barilko

It’s a pure PR move by the Canucks to give Luongo the C. The hockey equivalent of jingling your car keys in front of a baby to keep it amused. Fans here need someone easily identifiable on the team and Luongo is by far the biggest star.
Management knows the average hockey “fan” in town can only remember 3 player names. Unfortunately with all the Sundin hullaballoo it means that they’ve forgotten about one of the Sedin twins. Which one? Does it matter?
true, we're not like the rest of you...
but that doesn’t mean we’re socially awkward. well, fine, some of us are. the rest of us are the life of the party.

On the subject of captains..
Will the Leafs go the “monthly” captain route, or name someone off the bat? (On a completely different note, what does FTB stand for? Sorry, I’m a stupid American)
From The Branches
Sometimes we write it out but if we can think of a funny comment we shorten it. Don’t worry about not knowing. Or being a stupid American – Chemmy’s one too!)*
*just kidding.

There’s a good comment from Ron Wilson on this subject:
You don’t have to put a C on anybody. You put that on the lineup sheet so the referees know. You don’t have to let the whole world know
I think they’ll pass it around every game for a while but no one will wear the C on a sweater. It’ll be interesting to see if there’s any consistency with the A or if it’ll be 3 different guys every night.

Give it to Schenn
Just to piss off Cox.

Ah...thanks
Now I’m a well-educated American. As far as captain, I like Kubina. He really stepped up his play down the stretch last year and from what I’ve read he is well liked and respected in the dressing room. Not sure if I am a fan of the captain of the month deal. It’s like it’s a contest or something.
It’s like it’s a contest or something.
You’re not that far off – Wilson again:
You could turn it into who plays best, who shows the most leadership on the ice and they get the C for a month, a week. We haven’t determined that yet."
