For some reason, I’ve always liked Kubina. I remember there was an article in the paper about Kubina and Kaberle a while back asking them about who their best friends are in hockey. Kubina immediately answers Tomas Kaberle, but Kaberle answers Bryan McCabe or something to that extent. Bottom line was it wasn’t Kubina. I thought that was really funny and sad at the same time.

eklund is hysterical...
seriously, first good laugh in a week. i won’t link, so here’s a copy of his post…
It’s Rumour Night in America: 10 BIG RUMOURS TO CHEW ON
1. Brian Burke is Bringing Sundin with Him to Toronto
This one makes a ton of sense. Burke and Mats are friends and have a great deal of respect for one another, Mats wants to be a Life-long Leaf.2. The Devils are closing in on a deal for Khabibulin
It does appear that this is the case. There is little doubt that the Devils will let this go much further. Look for Cam Barker to be included going to the Devils3. The Caps and Canucks are closing in on a Nylander Deal.
The Canucks have had interest in Nylander for quite some time. Nylander was a healthy scratch last night and is also rumoured to be heading to Chicago.4. Forsberg is strongly considering Chicago and Ottawa.
The unrest and inconsistency in Colorado may have Foppa ( who recently had a surgery “tweak” to his foot) looking elsewhere.5. The Rangers could still move Gomez to Vancouver or Calgary to make room for Sundin.
More then a few “other” team people who were in on the Sundin sweeps told me they believed that Gomez was the player the Rangers were ready to trade.6. Nik Antropov will be traded in the next two weeks to the Minnesota Wild as a piece of a deal that could bring Gaborik to Toronto.
This is all the buzz today among certain players close to each camp.7 The San Jose Sharks and the Dallas Stars are both interested in the Devils John Madden.
Makes sense. He is a tough player to play against and in the Sharks case could be the difference in the epic Detroit playoff series to come.8. The Senators may move Vermette to get Greg deVries (a former Sen) out of Nashille,.
This could be a good trade for both sides on quite a few levels. I would think the Preds would have to sweeten the pot a bit.9. The Edmonton Oilers are trying to move Dwayne Roloson to the Islanders.
I could see this as well. The Isles really do need an NHL goalie in DiPietro’s absence.10. Alexandre Radulov is campaigning to return to the NHL and to be moved to the Capitals. As is Afingoenov.
Would Poile care to help Rads out with his request after all that went down?
Anybody throws me against the boards I'm gonna piss all over myself.

Boring
Is pretty much the one word to describe this game. The Leafs never got on track after failing to bury their chances on the golden 5 on 3 powerplay. Again, the familiar pattern of the Leafs out shooting their opponents by a wide margin with nothing to show rears its ugly head again.
I said this in the game thread but “Our Luke and Savior” needs to watch himself from trying to take on every guy on the other team, especially when they give out hard, but clean checks. I think his teammates now know that Schenn will always have their back, but he can’t afford to go off one for one with a 4th liner. He’s already that valuable. He is already one of the Leafs best defensive defenceman and there’s no way he can develop his overall game if he’s constantly in the penalty box or worse, injured trying to go after everybody.
i know where Schenn is coming from with his fighting, trying to stick up for and spark his team, but yes, he needs to pick his spots better. He will learn
Because Taking The Leafs Seriously Is Not An Option
by JaredFromLondon on Nov 15, 2008 11:00 PM EST up reply actions
I love how Schenn plays the game and you’re right, he will learn as he plays more. I just hope he realizes sooner than later by not being goaded into fighting by the other team’s goons/lesser players, which will eventually happen. To Schenn’s credit, however, he only looks for fights after the fact, rather than going on the ice with the sole purpose of fighting.
yeah, Schenn is trying to establish a presence, every time im on the ice, watch out cause ill get you type of thing, he just needs to work on his NHL fighting
Because Taking The Leafs Seriously Is Not An Option
by JaredFromLondon on Nov 15, 2008 11:09 PM EST up reply actions
I do hope that presence is through his excellent defensive presence and thundering body checks with the occasional fights to mix things up.
in that case, so far so good, he will only get better

Vancouver is angry
because no matter how hard they try, they just don’t matter.
It’s Toronto-envy.
by Karina on Nov 15, 2008 11:32 PM EST reply actions
Pretty much. If I’m not mistaken, there was nary a single pro-Canucks cheer all game. They had a “Leafs Suck” chant a couple of times, but that was about it.
Again, a part of it has to do with the style of game they play, too. It’s a defensive game plan, close to the trap as you can get, and there’s nothing memorable about their game. Even the commentators who were pretty pro-Canucks all game (well, at least pro-Luongo with a dash of Wellwood) couldn’t get away from talking about the Leafs team and their play from the third period onwards.
Despite the loss, how many Leafs fans really care who beat them by tomorrow? Lots of talk about inconsistent effort, poor defensive coverage, lacklustre goaltending from Toskala, but I would be surprised if the Canucks are even mentioned.
Sorry Vancouver Canucks – we’re just not that into you.
All true
but I mean the whole city has the complex, about the city of Toronto, not just our hockey team. It wouldn’t matter if the Leafs were the storied franchise they were, if there was a second team in Toronto they would face the same hatred in Vancouver because people here, inexplicably, hate Toronto and everything to do with it. It’s like a built-in inferiority complex. People who have never left the province of BC will tell you until you’re blue in the face that Toronto sucks and that Vancouver is the best city in the world.
And then their hockey fans are exactly the same. Somehow, they can mock us for a 40 year cup drought when they’re in a 37 year drought. I just don’t get it.
And yeah, Hughson is pretty pro-Canucks. He was ticking me off quite a bit. Thank goodness we have Cherry to balance him out.
by Karina on Nov 15, 2008 11:46 PM EST reply actions
Ah the city inferiority complex. Yeah I do see that often. I was in a university tutorial a couple of years back when we were talking about the economics of different geographical areas across Canada. When we finally settle to Ontario, out of nowhere, this douche from Vancouver takes it upon himself to say the Leafs suck and Toronto is overrated as a city. Never mind that he’s getting a post-secondary education in Toronto, but the inherent need to add in his two cents about the Leafs is amusing at best, and really, really sad at worst. While there are many cities that identify themselves as not being a big city folk (I got that vibe from the Maritimes), I have no doubt in my mind that there are just as many cities that derive a lot of their identity from not being Torontonians.
I’m not one to constantly scream out that Toronto is the best city in the world, but I also don’t badmouth other cities to make myself feel more important. And I think this attitude also pisses off a lot of these zealots. It’s one thing to actively be an arrogant prick, then their hatred is justified. But it drives them crazy when they see that a lot of natives in Toronto just don’t give a fuck about the other cities. Toronto has so many things to worry about, considering it is the largest city in Canada, that many of us can’t afford to shift our attention. I guess people see this as insular and self-centred, but it really has little to do with being anti-rest of Canada.
This whole not caring really grates on a lot of Canadians and to be honest, it’s so ingrained in their identity that not bashing Toronto is akin to not being a true Vancouverite, Montrealer, Edmontonian, Calgarian, Albertan, Westerner, etc.
interesting...
it’s basically the world view Americans take, condensed into a city sized metaphor…
people think American’s don’t pay attention to the rest of the world for a variety of reasons (ignorance being the primary one given) when in reality, there just is so much to be involved in internally.
however, the metaphor diverges when the issue of Nationalism comes into play…
Anybody throws me against the boards I'm gonna piss all over myself.

Thoughts
I told my sister about the Semin pick being traded for Linden – she’s a recent Canucks fan – and her reaction was: “It was worth it! Trevor is our leader!” So there you go.
Additionally, I’ve never been able to figure out the whole Toronto hate-on people out here have. Like stated above, it really doesn’t matter in what area, people out west really dislike the big smoke. I don’t really think it is jealousy, I think it is more to do with feeling underappreciated and ignored. Which I guess could be jealousy. Add in the fact that people here resent how tilted a lot of things (federal government, culture, business, industry) “in favour” of Ontario. You really could explain til you’re blue in the face things like population and density differences and it wouldn’t make a lick of good. Personally, I get more annoyed at Quebec and the maritimes sucking up more than their fair share of gov’t resources, but that’s another issue..
I find having lived in a few of the major cities in the country (Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa) and having grown up in a smallish city (Victoria) just throwing blanket labels on cities is kind of silly. Most if not all cities have their great, unique flavours, but the vast majority of the cities in Canada are so similar to each other casting dispersions on each other seems pretty goofy.
Anyway I’m glad for not much in the way of Vancouver bashing on here, even though lots of the Canuckleheads sure dish out a lashing on Toronto. I’m sure Toronto has its fair share of the idiot caste too, however! ;)
Sorry I missed the game, although from piecing it together it’s good that the Leafs did manage to solve Luongo a couple of times. Are people getting a little freaked out by Toskala yet? 4 goals on 9 shots was it? Yikes.
