I was in Kitchener yesterday

For work.

Took me 3 and a #%&@ing half hours to get home.

I had incompetent drivers, which are like 99.5% of the drivers on the road around here. They see 4 snow flakes on their windshield and they start flying off the roads at 20kph.

Oh yes. Full blown angry pissed off Winkle is back.

Awesome combat system, and I agreed, it was especially satisfying watching someone’s head explode when you shove a .308 bullet in there with your sniper rifle from a couple hundred yards out.

by LeafFanInVan on Nov 20, 2008 4:02 PM EST up reply actions

Depends

Really had to try your luck, but yea the percentages were generally pretty abysmal even with the scoped sniper rifle, 100 small arms, 10 perception and 10 agi. But the percentages are weird, if it’s around 50% it’ll still connect more often then not… I can’t tell you how infuriated I got after missing for the 3rd time in a row when the hit percentage is 95%.

I hate my wireless router

The only good thing about having Telus internet was that the wireless was built into the modem and it pretty much never messed up.

Now with the Shaw modem and the Linksys router I find myself resetting the damn thing way, way, way more than I’d like.

CONNECT MY DAMN PS3 to the INTERNETS!

hold on there turbo, Telus does internets now?

Telus

Does internet and home phone out in the west whereas in the east they are only limited to mobile services.

Hey dare, you got a PS3? What’s your PSN handle? Also, do you have LittleBigPlanet, I need to find someone who is not random and stupid to play online with.

I don’t have LittleBigPlanet yet. It’s on the list!

I can’t remember what my PSN handle is…I’ll have to check when it’s done downloading this update. It’s been a while since we’ve actually had the PS3 connected to the internets.

Rock Band 1 + 2
LBP
WipeOut HD
GTA4

Also have Fallout 3 and Assassin’s Creed but they do not have multiplayer.

They do out here at least. (Alberta)

For a while we had Telus for internet/phone/TV, but their customer service was non-existent.

This modem/router combo drives me insane though. :(

by dare_ on Nov 20, 2008 3:53 PM EST reply actions

I have a hate on for telus, I’ve got their cell phone service and have had 3 cells die on me over two years. You go into a store and they cant (literally are not allowed) to do anything but sell you a new phone, you have to call their help desk in india to get them to give you a “credit” so you can to into a store and get a new phone, it is barely worth the effort, which is the idea.

Because Taking The Leafs Seriously Is Not An Option

by JaredFromLondon on Nov 20, 2008 3:55 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I have a similar hate for Telus. I still have them for my cell service because I bought the cheapest one I could at the beginning of my two-year contract in Sept. 2006. Said phone would turn itself off and eventually, would not really turn on at all come May of this year. I didn’t like my options of waiting out my contract without a phone so that I could escape in September, or having to purchase a new phone, so I sucked it up and signed a new contract with them and got a new phone.

I mean, at least my plan isn’t bad…but it’s the principle of the thing. Stupid Telus.

Not to mention I had to send my new phone out for service in July because it wouldn’t hold a charge. At least that problem’s been fixed now.

i had to do that with my 360, as it started playing havoc with my connectivity through my router for some weird reason…

No...

I essentially know enough about this stuff to have set up the wireless network. In terms of fixing it when it goes down, the only thing I know how to do is go upstairs, unplug the modem, unplug the router, plug them back in, and see if things work.

Interestingly enough, running MSN on the laptop wirelessly seems to kill the connection. I don’t know why, nor do I understand how this is even possible, but not running MSN on the laptop seems to result in me having to run upstairs and “fix” things a lot less.

"God's in His heaven. All's right with the world." - Robert Browning (1812-1889)

by Winkle on Nov 20, 2008 4:12 PM EST up reply actions

It really is.

It is the ONLY reason that I miss Telus – discounting when they disconnected us for a week “because they had to change the name on the account” (WTF), that internet NEVER went down. I could be on the wireless on both laptops and the PS3, and wired on my desktop, and it was never anything but completely happy.

The Shaw doesn’t seem to ever mess up when I have it directly connected to my desktop upstairs, but as soon as I involve the router…bam.

by dare_ on Nov 20, 2008 4:16 PM EST reply actions

Hrm...

Linksys routers are generally pretty good. I’ve had Linksys, D-Link, SMC, and Netgear routers and Linksys have been by far the best.

I get weird hiccups on my current D-Link where it refuses to assign my laptop and IP even though the other two laptops in the house, the PS3 and my Nintendo DS Lite never has issues with the wireless. I have to reboot the router to solve that problem.

I would google your problem, or even try updating the firmware on that thing.

If you don’t know how to do any of that stuff on your own, find someone who does or google around, it’s really quite easy.

Yeah, it’s one of those problems I keep meaning to deal with…and then I get lazy. :) I’ll google it though – I can’t be the only person in the world that has ever had this issue.

by Winkle on Nov 20, 2008 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

The only thing

that worked for me, was installing the linksys software on the desktop. Once I got that installed and set up, even though it really changed nothing on the network, the router’s been perfect – I think it’s been 3 mos and I haven’t had to reboot it yet.

by Karina on Nov 20, 2008 4:33 PM EST up reply actions

That software

messed it up even worse for me. Things work better without it…but that’s not saying much.

by dare_ on Nov 20, 2008 4:36 PM EST up reply actions

hmm...

I see that we have the same router as well…
Shaw, technically, should be able to help you out with that, although I’m not sure if you really wanna open that can of worms.

Otherwise, I’d call up an IT friend and make him dinner to fix it for you…

by Karina on Nov 20, 2008 5:00 PM EST up reply actions

Wow

That is the venerable classic Linksys router that most techno-philes consider to be the best router ever made by man… well mostly because it runs Linux.

I’ve been looking it up and I see a variety of problems/solutions.

Some people say to turn off UPnP and that will help.

Some people say to install dd-wrt and that will fix the issues…I’m a little scared of messing with things though.

Although this is time #4 trying to install the damn update on my PS3 so I can play CoD4 again and it still won’t go…so I’m starting to be ready to do most anything.

i don’t listen to the radio, specifically so that i don’t get burned out on anything. that, and the radio sucks.

it’s a really good album though. i won’t say greatest album ever or anything, but it’s good. better than a lot of other stuff out there.
