Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

26% ?? Really??  BZZZT!!!

James Mirtle has a poll up on his site today.  The question is, "When Will Burke Have the Leafs in the Playoffs?"

Here's a screencap from the site, taken just before 2 p.m. today:

26 percent

What the hell?  If you look down at the bottom, twenty-six percent - a little more than one in four, for you math scholars out there - of the respondents have voted "Never."

I can only hope that James has set this poll up in such a way that those who click on the "never" button are, in effect, just self-identifying as "clueless asshats who deserve an electric shock to the testicles", and that the appropriate hardware and software has been put in place to achieve that very result using the power of teh Intarwebs and today's modern technology*.

Seriously, is it even possible that more than one in four people actually believes that the Leafs won't even make the playoffs for another six consecutive years?  Isn't it a bit more likely that, somewhere out there, there are 19 numbskull Habs/Sens fans laughing to themselves about what an excellent wit they have proven themselves to be, chortling over the grand success of their web-enabled riposte?

--------------------

*note that today's modern technology is far superior to yesterday's modern technology, which was very outdated - we just didn't know it at the time.

Poll
Do you think that participation in Internet polls ought to expose you to the risk of an electric shock to the testicles?
Yes (Zap me now!!)

In my opinion

And I reserve the right to reverse it at any time but if they don’t make it next year I’d be pretty disappointed.

Depends

…what happens later this year. If Burkie chooses to keep Antro, Kabby and VeTo along with Hagman, Grabs and Schenn, then I agree. If he moves any significant number of the core bodies for picks, all bets are off. That’s the only talent we have right now.

Oh

I am working on the assumption that Antropov signs the kind of long-term, hometown discount deal that will make my eyes water, Kaberle stays, and Kubina, VeTo, and Poni (sorry buddy) are all moved for young players that can contribute now and in the future and picks/prospects.

I’d let the whole lineup in the leafs dressing room roshambo me if Burkie promised that he’d get rid of Blake the next day….and I’d travel there on my own cost….and let Wilson comment about it during the next game.

depending on how severly Burke guts this team (IE if Kabby, Kubbie, Toskala, Antro AND Poni are all gone) and the return isnt in immediate young tallent that can have an impact now (Jeff Carter et all) then I could see next year as a re-builder as well.
I’m hoping Burke wants to build a team that can come out swinging out of training camp with a fully loaded Kovalchuck + Bowmeister addition (or something to that effect).
