FTB - We Welcome Our New Angry Irish Overlord!
Everything ever written on this humble site about the Leafs' 13th General Manager and newest President (ousting one Richard Peddie) can be found here. If you are looking for one post to unite them all then you'll want to start with this one and work your way through the links.
- THIS IS IMPORTANT: Wraparoundcurl is being persecuted by an ignorant WHL club that apparently owns everything to do with their club including the fan's thoughts and pictures. Puck Daddy is supposed to do more to bring the issue to light. In the meantime, read her story, offer moral support and see if you can't help out somehow.
- The Ducks wish Brian Burke the best in Toronto.
- Mike Ulmer and TSM both look at the great job that Cliff Fletcher did during his eleven month stint as interim GM. Hopefully the next eight months as an advisor will see him continue to contribute at a high level.
- Ken Campbell clears up some misconceptions about the MLSE board.
- I have to disagree. Tellqvist had no future with the club after shitting the bed against Montreal and Burke was in a difficult position with a Stanley Cup winning goalie and two high-end backups. One had to go and when people know that they have you it's hard to make a move. Either Giguere or Bryzgalov was going for nothing regardless of who was in charge.
- An ESPN writer has labelled Sundin a turkey. He will be hearing from Eyebeleaf!
- David Johnson thinks that Burke is going make some bold moves to bring in top end talent to complement what is here.
- This guy failed "Baiting Leafs 101". Unless "Pretend you have no idea what you are talking about" recently became part of the course in which case he passed with flying colours. Also, Rachel McAdams is a Leafs fan and a bigger fox.
- And you thought Chemmy's trade curse was bad!
- TSM responds to Paul Hunter's article on Burke's draft history. There's the traditional media for you, only seven months later than MF37.
Add any links that I missed in the comments.

Who is this “Sundin” you speak of? The name seems familiar, but fuzzy … :)
Some people have got to get with the 21st century at some point. I think of a blog or a photo site like Flickr as definitely “personal use.” No one takes pictures on dead trees and stores them in shoeboxes or posts them on bulletin boards anymore, idiots. If money was being made, then they would have every right to be upset until the team got their cut, but otherwise they should butt out. Luddite troglodytic douches.

I understand the disagreement...
I realize that Bryzgalov had to go, and I know Tellqvist had run out of chances with the Leafs.
The point I’m trying to make is, neither move has led either team to MORE success, and frankly Brian Burke’s record is fairly similar in a lot of ways to that of JFJ… the guy everyone rips incessantly for mismanaging the Leafs.
The Ducks have been a worse team since they lost Bryzgalov, and the Leafs goaltending has not gotten any better since they dealt away Tellqvist.
Similarly I mention Cloutier because I don’t think he was as close to a Stanley Cup as Burke would have had people believing during his tenure as GM of the Canucks. Similarly to how JFJ kept telling everyone Raycroft was a great goalie, and sold everyone on Toskala.
The whole thing is an effort in comparison and contrast… I’m not saying I think Tellqvist would be the Leafs saviour, or that Burke could have kept Bryzgalov.
"Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm."

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Leafs.
I touched on my issue with Bryzgalov in our Toskala counterpoint.
The Leafs took on bad salary and gave up a first rounder for Toskala, yet a couple months later Burke couldn’t get anything for Brygalov.

I completely agree with this point. Burke’s hubris cost the Canucks a Stanley Cup in 2002. They were up 2-0 on the Red Wings and AT HOME!!! when Cloutier let in Lidstrom’s long-range effort.
The difference I would make with JFJ is that when he went out and got Raycroft the Leafs had just finished the year like 10-1-2 with Aubin and Tellqvist and had Rask and Pogge coming up. Where was the urgency to trade a prospect for a guy that was coming off an injury plagued season? Then, rather than stick with Raycroft, he compounded the mistake by trading for Toskala.
Meanwhile, Burke wins a Cup and shows loyalty to Giguere which leaves him in a bind. His sin was having three NHL-starter quality goaltending. I am not sure that that compares that similarly to JFJ.

New DGB post: more talk about obscure jerseys. I’m pretty sure I owned the most obscure Leafs jersey of all-time, but maybe somebody can top me.

It looks as if Leaf Nation can add a very famous and beautiful fan to it’s ranks. Which is a big difference from their usual mouth breathing, band wagon jumping fans who only hang Leaf flags out of the windows of their Honda Civics when they’re winning.
Uh

Since when are we bandwagoners? that makes no sense what so ever.

that’s what i thought…
someone needs to be explained what a band-wagoner is me thinks. I’ve never met a “band wagon” leaf fan in my life.

maybe he means all the traitors who abandoned us and became Sens fans who will jump back onto Leafs fandom next year when the Leafs are contenders and the Sens are in the basement

Oh, it’s up now. I saw another stupid article on that site a while ago but I didn’t feel like linking it but that was too dumb to pass up.

Guys thanks so much for the link action. I really really appreciate it.

No Problem
Is there a contact e-mail for complaints with the Chiefs? Will they make you get rights if you print your pictures and show them to friends at home? How can people still be so stupid in 2008? Are they JUST getting the internet?

In terms of running a team and advertising I estimate they are about 8 years behind the curve. If you go look at the site now, it assaults the senses. Also, that is the the “upgraded site.”

Agreed.
It’s one thing to chatter on the tubes in general – but fill up someone’s email inbox and voicemail with polite (but VOLUMINOUS) comment and they will more likely get the message. (Even Alaskan politicians, I found out!)
If you have contact information, I’m sure a lot of people would be willing to stick up for modern principles. People that stupid make me so frustrated I want to bang a skull against an overpass until brains leak out like tapioca pudding. Grrrr…..

DGB might have a Berube jersey, but I think in 15 years my Wade Belak jersey will be more obscure.

The Burke newser startated at 2:05.
Peddie is talking and somewhere Cliff Fletcher is moving his lips.

Man, did Bob McKenzie ever nail the front end of this press conference in his column today. Near verbatim on team building, front office and trade timing.

Wait, Peddie was at the press conference? Dammit, don’t tell me he’s still anywhere close to the picture.
Was the media’s first questionto Peddie “What the hell are you even doing here?” And did Burke answer “Yes, RIchard, what the hell are you doing here?”

Only two questions...
…and then into the scrums and one on ones. Interesting that the reporters decided to wait…

well I...
…just woke up and haven’t scanned the last few days comments too closely, but has anyone mentioned anything in the news or on here about the nature of what the Brian Burke/Dominic Moore relationship might be? Burke was a co-defendant in the Steve Moore lawsuit and was a pretty big defender of Bertuzzi. Not that he should have hung his own player out to dry and he’s definitely loyal, but I can’t see Dominic being able to put aside personal feelings over that. He had a good game tonight but my money is still on him asking for a move and being the first Leaf shipped off. If this has already been discussed feel free to call me an idiot and post a link.
