But tropical climates are just not for me. I’ll rather but at Whistler or in the mountains with the snow and going boarding then be swimming in the Bahamas.

With all inclusive you’re paying $2-3K up front for all the booze you drink. I doubt I’ll drink three thousand dollars worth of beer in a week.

I’ve been living there as of late, but not as often as last year when I REALLY couldn’t stand my roommates (looong story) and was there until closing most nights

by loser domi on Dec 1, 2008 11:03 AM EST up reply actions

I hate it

When that happens

In my first year in a dorm, I got paired with this a-hole who was never there but his friends called him about every 2 minutes. Once while trying to study for a mid-term, someone called his phone about 10 times in 30 minutes (I saw the number, we get call-display and it was the same number everytime). Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and picked up and yelled into the phone

“If he wasn’t here the first 10 times you called what makes you think he’s going to be here now?!?!” and slammed it down, they never called again.

Besides, I’m an easterner who lives in the west. It works for me, but I don’t drink starbucks and I don’t smoke weed, so I don’t completely fit in…

I forgive you

Only because you’re from Ontario, and you used to work for Stantec, and you’re totally cool.

I’m only here for my economical benefit… and the warmer winters.

But I totally miss Toronto.

Oh! I wanted to ask… when I was at stantec, they had all 3rd party cookies blocked and I couldn’t post here. You have no such problems??

Nope

But I am using Firefox, which I’m not supposed to but whatevers.

I know that in IE I can’t use Google Chat in my GMail but FF has no such issues… they block IE cookies, not FF cookies.

My friend

And co-worker discovered a work-around, they wouldn’t let him install FF either (like I said, I snuck my copy on), so he installed it on a USB key at home and he runs FF directly off the USB when he gets to work.

My dad...

used to be a DJ for CKAR in Oshawa. I got over “popular” music at a relatively young age.

Occasionally, a band will show up, have a hit song, and turn out to be far better than that song (radiohead) other times, not so much. I’ve found that trusting in the masses to dictate my musical interests is a losing cause. So much filler, and not enough substance in these bands today. I’d rather buy an album with 10 great songs by someone no one has ever heard of, than the latest thing with one hit song…

You can get more complex and hate only specific eras of certain bands! Like Metallica for example.. Master of Puppets being the finest example of thrash metal ever laid down, while Load and ReLoad being a crap attempt to get more mainstream acceptance

I am also probably one of the few people who enjoyed Load and Re-Load (Not at first, but after a few listens it grows on you)

St Anger was pure trash though

My beef with st anger was – wtf was with the engineering or mixing or whatever? It sounded like Lars was beating on upturned plastic cans. Blech.

Load does have a couple decent tunes, I will admit. But then I was never a rabid metallica head (with the flowing mullet, metallica t-shirt, black jeans and black basketball shoes)

Justice suffers from the same thing that pissed me off about st anger – the mixing or whatever. You cannot hear the bass at all in it, and that annoys me (being an occasional bass player)

by Winkle on Dec 1, 2008 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

Why

I wasn’t born anywhere near during the height of their popularity.

They are classics for sure, but doesn’t mean I have to like them. I didn’t grow up on their music, and thus did not acquire a taste for it.

Plus I’m not one of those people who lock myself into or out of a band, Coldplay and U2 are really the only bands that I like as a whole, most other times I like a song here or there from one bad and so and so forth.

by Winkle on Dec 1, 2008 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

I love music.

period.

i’m not locked into any one band, in love or hate. I enjoy finding new bands, and discovering appreciation for older ones (for the record, I wasn’t around at the heights of the Beatles either, but given all they did for rock music, I can’t help but enjoy them…) I’ve found that, most bands I hear on the radio, go downhill from their single. I appreciate some Coldplay and U2, but I don’t get why people are going ga ga over what is essentially recycled U2 and Big Star riffs…

It is interesting how some people have apathy for the Beatles, but then all of a sudden it will hit like a ton of bricks. When I was younger I just didn’t really get it and probably discounted them to some degree because of the hype, but wow, there’s no disputing how good they were.

by LeafFanInVan on Dec 1, 2008 2:12 PM EST up reply actions

I think the main thing with Coldplay is that the people who really like them also are the types of people who don’t really go too deep with their musical selections.

It’s catchy, inoffensive rock that will appeal to the broadest spectrum of people.

What he said

LeafFanInVan has me pinned exactly

I don’t care for hidden meanings in the lyrics or if a cord or something is supposed to mean this or that. I just like it because I like the tune, and the lyrics are catchy or neat, and it’s pleasant and either gets my mind off things or it helps me concentrate.

That’s why I am a song-to-song person.

Driv-Thru

Is the spawn of the devil. It drives me nuts to see people wait 15 to 20 minutes in drive-thru because they don’t want to step out of their air-conditioned cars in the summer for 5 minutes, there’s no freaking line-up inside, at all, and ample parking spaces right next to the front doors.

BUT NO THEY HAVE TO SIT THERE WITH THEIR CARS IDLING AND CONTINUING TO POLLUTE MY GREEN EARTH.

I should be given legal powers to kill at will when that sorta shit happens.

hah

I wouldnt dare bring out Tlusty at work.

If someone snipes a screenshot of Sportsnet Connected tonight, I’ll be in the background, right between Sean & Martine when they’re sitting on the little bench.

Official answer:
Sounds fine here. The audio coming in is normal stereo. We are upmixing it to 5.1 for the HD channel then downmixing it for the SD channel. All these mixes sound fine. Best guess is that your friends are listening to a 5.1 mix but are only hearing the Left and Right for some reason. The announcer is significantly lower on those two channels but still audible. The centre channel has a much louder announcer level.

I don't have cable anymore

but I have the same memory of it. Crank it to hear the faintest bit of the game, then hit mute during the commercials so blood doesn’t pour out your ears.

The pointy stiletto is amazing for that. Fashionable, and fearsome.

indeed, not many can pull off hunting knives with tuxes and evening gowns, but they made it work.

I rock an evening gown and hunting knife like nobody’s business. You have to wear pretty high heels though, or else it can look kind of trashy.

I bet matching Sheathes are hard to find, probably have to get em custom made

Because Taking The Leafs Seriously Is Not An Option

by JaredFromLondon on Dec 1, 2008 7:34 PM EST up reply actions

You aren’t kidding. I have a dickens of a time getting new ones done to match my latest gown. And you can’t just keep re-using old ones, as people will totally remember that you used it at the last event, and then you never hear the end of it. I’m looking into learning to sew so that I can eventually make my own.

thats

why I prefer a good stainless steal butterfly knife, slips easy into the pocket and it never clashes

by JaredFromLondon on Dec 1, 2008 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

Two problems:

1) I’m just a little girl, and need some heft to my knife to scare people.

2) gowns don’t have pockets. Or at least, they shouldn’t.

Benchmade AFCK for me!

I brought it to work once when we were moving, great for opening boxes. I got weird looks though.

benchmades

are great knives, I carry a one handed opener for work.

Yeah I really like the AXIS lock too, no more liner lock BS for me!

Surprised they discontinued the AFCK, it’s a great knife for whatever, camping, boxes, looking badass, whatever.
