Game Day Open Thread: Leafs @ Kings

Toronto Maple Leafs at Los Angeles Kings, Dec 1, 2008 10:30 PM EST

For those of you brave souls staying up to watch this, I salute you. I will be curled up in bed, having dreams of waking up and watching the game in six to see Luke Schenn hit Drew Doughty and explode him into a fine pink mist.

Go Leafs go!

So, some of the Kings players are excited to play Toronto because friends and family will be able to see them. Does this mean they will be jittery and losers, or inspired and winners?

basically, we just had an election and our PM tried to be a bad ass, and now he might lose his prime ministerial ship…the other parties are saying they can’t let the conservatives govern…so they’re forming a coalition government for 3 years…with the minority liberals takin the lead, and a liberal becoming prime minister…now it’s up to the governor general to dissolve parliament and call an election, or let the coalition government go through…

it’s a shit storm.

For sure

Harper is a dillhole who doesn’t know he doesn’t have a huge number of seats and is arrogant as the day is long. He overstepped bounds, and now should get crushed by the other parties.

Mabel will laugh. And possibly throw stuff at him.

I used to be so embroiled in all this stuff (there was a time when I could name every federal and Ontario cabinet minister and their riding) now I just shake my head.

There’s a great quote from Pierre Trudeau to the effect of – “We may not know how to govern, but we certainly know how to get elected.” and it strikes me that this is what this is really all about. The opposition saw an opening and went for it. It’s not about governance, policy or the public good, it’s about ego and power.

At the same time, the federal govenment is really just a glorified transfer agency and the bulk of powers that affect our day to day lives reside at the provincial (health, education, environment, social services, etc.) and municipal (zoning, public health, sanitation) levels.

Other than the PM being a cock.

by article1 on Dec 1, 2008 11:33 PM EST up reply actions

He wants to push through stuff that doesn’t really solve things, and the opposition is trying to take advantage and form a coalition government, though who knows if they have a plan. Mostly? It’s just him being a cock.

And yes, I hate him with a fiery passion, so I might be a tad biased.

Carlo, pictured above, was drafted the year after we drafted 57 year old Owen Nolan. Seen as an improvement in draft selection for the Leafs and, hailed as “Bobby Orr but way way better” by the Toronto media, Carlo spent most of his time giving the thumbs up while being carried off the ice.

I wonder though, if Stajan is a number one centre for this team. I don’t think a number one guy has to be a 90+ point scorer necessarily, but should get at least 75+ points I would think. Stajan looks to have been miscast as a defensive forward or a plugger by previous regimes, but is he a top 2 centre? I probably should just shut up and take Stajan’s performance with a smile and “GO LEAFS GO” chant in mind, but I’m finding this difficult to wrap my head around in either case.
