The holidays (Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, whatever) is generally a time spent with family. As a wee young lad, it was a time for toys, "what did you get me, that's it" thoughts and other general selfishness.
Now, as I'm older, wiser and much improved in the selfishness department, this holiday is seen as a time of giving. I enjoy spending time with the family, and I enjoy giving my time to help those less fortunate. Kind of like the Leafs. I mean, they are less fortunate than I...
It is in this spirit, that I give to you, my gift list thoughts. Here, in alphabetical order, are the things I'd like to give each of our beloved Maple Leafs.
Nik Antropov - Another Top 6 forward. It's lonely being the only one...
Jason Blake - A cure for cancer
Andre Deveaux - Some moxy, sandpaper, or a years subscription to Rock 'em Sock 'em hockey.
Jeff Finger - Respect. His play has been solid, and he does not look a penny overpaid.
Jonas Frogren - More ice time, and fewer brain cramps.
Mikhail Grabovski - A trip to the All Star Game, the Calder trophy and a long and successful career as a Maple Leaf.
Niklas Hagman - A "C" for the front of his jersey.
Ryan Hollweg - Some kudos. His play the last few games has been inspired, hard hitting and hard working hockey. Barring that, and should he slip back into sucking, how about a new jersey with a new team...?
Curtis Joseph - A trip to the fountain of youth, so we can all bask one more time in the glory of Cujo. I'd like to see him end his career with a bark and a bite...
Tomas Kaberle - Peace of mind. And proving me wrong about the trade that never was (Jeff, cough, Carter)
Pavel Kubina - Well, now that he has settled into a jersey number, how about a consistent partner on D?
Nikolai Kulemin - Some finish and a nose for the net. He already has the skill and the vision...
Jamal Mayers - A quick recovery, and a return to form.
John Mitchell - A home on the third line.
Dominic Moore - A big bump in jersey sales, and an "A" for the front of his jersey.
Alexei Ponikarovsky - Some shooting accuracy lessons to go along with that booming wrister of his.
Luke Schenn - For now, an "A" on the front of his jersey, and for Deveaux and Mayers to step up and handle some of the dancecards once in a while...
Jaime Sifers - What do you give the person you barely know? Here's a cheese log Jaime...
Matt Stajan - The skill and vision to be a number one center, and not one by default.
Lee Stempniak - A top 6 position.
Anton Stralman - More trips to the ice, and fewer to the press box.
Vesa Toskala - His very own Nabokov impersonator
Mike Van Ryn - Some eyes for the back of his helmet, and of course, a quick recovery. Also, maybe an extension?
Ian White - A permanent spot on the forward lines.
Jeremy Williams - Some consistency, and no more bus trips!
