Pogge
was delightful. And the stupid msm will probably find a way to make the win be in spite of him anyhow.

No, sadly, it is just what I expect. But I deserve better. (sigh)

Looking at the way
the Leafs have played the last 2 games it’s easy to imagine them winning 5 of their next 6.

Ron Wilson presser
Nice to see Justin play.
Thought we played really well in front of him.
He made a couple of big saves.
What a difference it is to have a big goalie in there. It helped him when he didn’t see the puck.
If he’s in a butterfly he only has to move a few inches and he’s got post-to-post coverage.
Leafs didn’t practice yesterday, so they were fresh. Wilson says he has a better understanding of the energy needs of this team – when to push, when to level off.
To go into Christmas at .500 is a reasonable accomplishment. We’ve won five of six and I think the team feels good about themselves and are hungry.
Maybe you’ll see Pogge tomorrow night – I have to talk to Burke adn the other coaches. The plan was for Toskala to play tomorrow, but we’ll see. Pogge’s a young kid who should be able to go but my gut says Toskala will be ready to go.
Trying to get traffic in front and get rebounds.
Jeremy Williams is hot and we now have a lot of balance on our lines – with Haggy back it gives us more balance and we can move people around.
The puck is bouncing our way and we want to take advantage of it.
Berger asks: Do you feel bad for John Anderson. (duh) Wilson says yeah, but we were the sharper team and deserved the win.

Leafs are 14-13-6. Above .500!

Not to be a downer, but I think that an overtime loss is a loss, not a tie therefore the Leafs record is 14-19.
Nonetheless they have exceeded expectations, are almost always enjoyable to watch and have tended to win the games I most wanted them to win.
I’m loving this season!
Totally agree
I think Chemmy was being facetious.

Fuck me Berger is stupid. My soccer team won our game last week 12-1. The only thing I felt sorry about what that I had missed three good chances.
As for Pogge, why not give him another game and be extra cautious with Vesa.

Let in one softie, but made 3-or-4 that he had no business making with his pads to make up for it

No Softies
That Armstrong shot was ridiculous. He made two unreal pad saves too. Like Wilson said, those two go in on a goalie that’s 5’10".

Quite the dilemma Burke and co. is facing
Obviously, the Leafs team isn’t an elite by any means. But the Leafs aren’t as “avert your eyes” horrendous as so many people predicted before the season. And more importantly, the teams right above them (namely Buffalo, Carolina, Florida) all have serious flaws of their own. The final playoff spot is not such a far-fetched notion, since the team is not bad enough to get that vaunted top three pick as currently built. Surely Burke knows this, too. Does he gut this team knowing that the guys who will stay on board might not understand “fixing” a hard working and growing team? As in, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
Looking at the schedule, I think the Leafs go 1-3-1 or 2-2-1 … I’m kinda torn. Love to see the Leafs win but also want a few young stars (seems like the Leafs might have a couple right now, ones we didn’t expect) from the draft. What’s a fan to do?
I mentioned it on HF (i know, I know) but do you guys think it’s possible Antropov gets traded to the BlueJackets? They need a C badly and just lost Brassard.
If this is the way they play with out a healthy Mike Van Ryan and Luke Schenn in the line up, then i can only imagine what they could play like with two game breakers like them (all things going well of course)
Could this team be as i joked before “one pure 50 goal finnisher away from contention?”
I doubt it, but it has a nice ring
Because Taking The Leafs Seriously Is Not An Option
by JaredFromLondon on Dec 22, 2008 10:05 PM EST up reply actions
I am going to start banning people that try to sell Antropov ;)
But I don’t think Columbus will move any of their kids to make the playoffs. I think that they can afford to see how things go this year but they might feel pressure.
Who would they move to us though?
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
Three days ago, I would have said Columbus has to make the post-season this year. Their youth is really playing well and that market is in real danger of fading.
Now that Brassard is out, I’m really curious to see what direction the ownership and Howson take. Will they try to make a run, will they back fill for their injured kid or will they just stay the course.
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
I am torn
I would have said that yes they need to do something but this injury could give them the excuse to say that they know they have a good team and they don’t want to risk the future just to make the playoffs.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
I have no idea who’s going to get traded and who’s going to stick around, but the goal of this organization has to be way more than qualifying for the playoffs. Eighth place just isn’t good enough anymore.
That’s why I think this team gets gutted even if they continue to pick up wins.
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
Yes
Burke won’t get distracted by shiny things. Gutting will still happen although I think it’s more likely to happen in the summer just because that’s when the draft comes and Kaberle and Kubina’s NTCs are void.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
winning will only depicte the level of the gutting, if they are playing well Burke will either do very little to keep chemestry or do a ton because the value of players will be higher.
If they do rotten, everything that isnt nailed down will go
Because Taking The Leafs Seriously Is Not An Option

That sounds about right – and if the Leafs are winning and playing well, you have to think the Leaf players are worth more in a deal.
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
And then that asset management problem gets fixed ;)
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
Timing
Kubina’s trade window didn’t open until 10 days after the NHL draft (July 1 to August 15). If the same goes for Kaberle, it may be two weeks too late for the whole big deal at the draft to go down.
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
Hmmmm I wonder where we can find that out…Maybe we can get one of those deals in principle going where they draft the guy we want and the Leafs draft the guy they want like in the NBA.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
I googled like mad for about 15 minutes this afternoon, but didn’t turn up anything. I wonder if a letter to DC mail would get this answered?
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
hahaha
Yes, I bet it would! That seems like an easy one. Open it by hammering Burke for saying that he’s not moving Kubina and Kaberle and then kind of wonder if moving them at the draft is his plan.
It’s perfect because he gets to be magnaminous and defend Burke and then be arrogant about knowing something that you don’t.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
I’ll drop him a line….not sure when the next mail bag will run as the next two Thursdays are Christmas and New Year’s day.
Should I set it up by saying how disappointed we all were that he wasn’t named as one of the 100 most infulential people in hockey?
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
Toss in the fact that you think he should be influential because everyone you know only trusts what he says because you all know that he is telling the truth about the Leafs.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
I left him a question from Blake Siopher. Best anagram I could come up with for the Barilkosphere.

NHL on the Fly on the NHL Network is awesome but Bill Berg just suggested that Pogge is now tradebait after this game because Toskala is the guy. What a dummy.
Also, Larry Murphy yells. A lot.

I only saw the third period and I’m actually watching the Leaf game on repeat.
I can’t believe the arena guy played Alex Chilton by the replacements during one of the in-game stoppages.
I also can’t believe Thorbun didn’t get a penalty when he tried to kick Frogren after that hit in the leafs’ zone.
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
I missed the first but I liked Kubina’s fire when Armstrong hacked at Pogge’s trapper in the third. Kubina could kill that little puke and I really wanted it to happen.
