FTB - Andrew Raycroft is a Better Goaltender than Vesa Toskala

- General Borschevsky thinks that Vesa Toskala is the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. He should also include the scheduling committee, but the Leafs won a four point game in the Hunt for Hedman last night.
- Down Goes Brown cancelled Christmas.
- Steve @ Hockeyanalysis' newest post: Vesa Toskala - Broken Shell of a Goaltender.
- Ron Guillet is absolutely on point: the Leafs can't afford to rush Pogge.
- Repressed Optimism likes candy canes, mistletoe and Matt Stajan.
- Steve @ Hockeyanalysis looks at the Leafs' forward depth.

As for two FTBs I’d like to reference this email sent by PPP:

Can you FTB? I’ll NNN and recap (sans photos because in my rush I forgot the camera so I missed all of the video of people jumping from the upper deck and the thought of spending their Christmas present money on Proline betting on the Leafs.)

I have no recollection of the events in question.
To be fair, last night I was hallucinating from my fever.

They were giving away Carlton bobblehead dolls. If TFC had played that badly those dolls would have littered the field. We should have pelted the Leafs with them.

would it be funny or sad if instead of the Grinch photoshopped on Vesa, there was a picture of Raycroft in his usual Leaf pose…

Put an Avs Unipron (Jersey) on him and that’s what he looked like last night against the Yotes.
He kept asking his defense “which way did it go?”

Here’s Raycroft’s first season with Toronto:
Raycroft
06-07 2.99GAA 0.894SV%
This was so bad it prompted Toronto to go out and get Vesa Toskala, who currently looks like this:
Toskala
08-09 3.30GAA 0.882SV%

Jeff Finger
As much as Toskala sucks compared to Raycroft, Tellqvist, and Clemmenson, and will ruin this team for the next two years, one should point out just what a piece of shit Jeff Finger has turned out to be for 3.5 a year. So remember back to this summer when other teams fans were laughing at us for signing him to that contract? They were all right.

i’m still waiting for the wheels to fall off on Stajan. I truly can not see him as, what he currently projects to be barring injury, a 70+ point man.
it’s weird because, this isn’t even a contract year for him…

Stajan
did suck until he was benched and likely told that he would be waived if he didn’t start playing harder. If Dominic Moore never played another game, would he be missed? He is much the same as Boyd Deveraux-seems ok, but just another plug. I wanted to play joseph again because Toskala sucked so bad and we had to make sure Joseph wasn’t a valid option. Finger should be making less than 2.

Stajan was benched what? 3 games into the season?
Dominic Moore is a pretty big part of the Leafs’ best line right now. He’s not a superstar but neither are Maltby or Draper. He’s the kind of guy that you need on your team to succeed.

I love disregarding a players past performance over the year and judging him harshly on an extremely small sample size.
Finger has played well. His contract may be a little inflated, but 75% of the contracts in the league are inflated.

Having
the worst starter in the league for the next two years will certainly ruin the team. NOt to mention the development of our young players who will learn to lose and never make the playoffs to improve. A friend of mine has a theory that in order for your young players to truly develope into the best they can be they need to taste playoffs often and early. Certainly explains the Red WIngs.

The Wings have also had the luxury of slowly integrating their young players because they still have stars that carry the load. When Zetterberg and Datsyuk came into the league they weren’t thrust into prominent roles, but rather they allowed to develop on lower lines while stars like Shanny and Lidstrom leading the way.
Now that Zetterberg and Datsyuk are stars they have slowly developed players like Hudler and Franzen so when they have to make tough cap decision they can let players go because they have others ready to step right in and not miss a beat.

not here in California...
I like our D the way it is, and would love to see Tavares in toronto.
my only worry is the expectation on him to be better than Gretzky would be instantaneous. any pick that high will be under tremendous pressure…

I missed Hedman getting crushed but I was impressed with him from what I saw in the exhibition. He is a ridiculously smooth skater for a guy that’s 6’7". Plus imagine him and Schenn for 15 years as anchors!

what i read on TSN
was that Tavares play in the world juniors has pushed him back up to #1 overall according to central scouting.
not sure if Hedman’s not playing well, but it seems to me Tavares likes playing in an environment with equal talent (for and against) and some high pressure.
he seems to be coasting his last year in junior (for him, he’s still heads and tails above most…)
