A Festivus in Reverserus....

OK, I'm supposed to be airing grievances, but having watched Parliament closely these past few days, I'm kind of all grieved out at the moment.

I have decided instead to air an anti-grievance.  This is something that was long a grievance, but I came to realize that holding it as a grievance made about as much sense as being angry about the fact that no matter what you do, Tuesday always follows Monday (EACH AND EVERY *#&^$*#@%$&^ WEEK!!!  GAAAH!!!)

My anti-grievance concerns Leaf pundits Messrs Cox and Berger.

I will no longer get angry when they spin something in a way with which I disagree.  I will no longer track something that was said in paragraph 1 and compare it to something in paragraph 5 and be irked when they are inconsistent.  I will not pay attention to the number of references to 1967. (I technically have one every time I post, so who am I to complain?)

In their role as columnists, they have but one purpose - to get people to read.

Whether a given column is accurate, consistent with past columns or has been thoroughly  fact-checked isn't really important.  That's for reporters to worry about.  They write opinion pieces.  They are allowed to spin, if need be. Their job is to get people talking, commenting and coming back the next day to see what they've written this time.  Now, if they happen to break some real news, all the better.  That's a value-add.  But it's not their primary function.

Whether you slavishly hang off every word and write comment after comment saying how thankful you are for their fantastic insight, or whether you collect their columns to wipe your nether regions with (don't do this, the ink will transfer), it doesn't matter.  All reactions are welcome so long as you keep coming back. 

This is the game.

Now, there are those who have taken on the challenge of disembowelling the opinion makers.  This is all good.  Counterpoint is always welcome.  I'll read that too.

I'm just not getting bent out of shape anymore.
