Jason Blake for Sean Avery?
Scott Cullen at TSN took a look at possible players that could be involved in a trade for Sean Avery, based upon their contracts and the idea that teams might want to get rid of them so badly that they'd take on Avery.
What do you think? Blake for Avery? I doubt it'd happen, because I cannot see Ron Wilson coexisting with Avery. Are we that desperate to get rid of Blake? From what I've seen, Avery does have some upside, and the ability to be a game breaker - but that could easily go either way. If Blake gets back to his best play - getting under the skin of other players - he could have a place on the team - but Avery is significantly younger. But would you make that deal?

No Way In Hell
Burke and Wilson would never make the deal thankfully. It would be nice to get rid of Blake but not at that high of a price.
The best comments from the Stars were the ones about how Avery was just too stupid to understand their drills or play their systems.

Well, with Avery on the team, the Leafs can go back to being the most hated team in hockey again.
I say definitely no to this trade. One of the things that got him off the LA Kings was his ability to negatively affect the younger players on the hockey team. It’s one thing to get the veterans pissed off at Avery, but to also ruin the Schenns, Grabovskis, and Kulemins for this douchebag? No way.
I'd say
that’s my biggest concern as well, the attitude he could infect in all the young’uns.
I don’t see the Stars being able to trade him anywhere at all (maybe Tampa?? just ‘cause they’re dumb). They made their bed with that 4 year deal, now they’ve gotta lay in it.

On a veteran laden team
Where there is an established leadership and hierarchy (I’m not convinced the Stars had that when Morrow went down), Avery could co-exist. I’m hoping this incident has matured Avery because the dude has hockey skills. New York was a good fit mainly because of Shanahan, Gomez and Drury. But otherwise, Avery’s going to struggle finding a team that can tolerate his antics and more importantly, his uncooperative and loner tendencies.

So, if I understand you correctly, you love this deal?

well, my head is telling me no, but my heart…my heart is telling me to listen to my brain on this one.

Burke
would never agree to Sean Avery for anything unless he wanted to eat Sean Avery for Thanksgiving Supper
Making stuff up since real Leafs news is far too depressing

His taste in guys to bait is a bit questionable though. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get Phaneuf pissed at me. Not unless I was tired of my teeth.

hmmm
I think you may have stumbled upon an interesting solution…. clearly, Avery needs to go play in Ottawa.

Dear Brian Burke:
If this happens, I quit.

Please God, no!!!
Avery is a cancer. His own teammates in Dallas want him gone. Our guys need to just focus on hockey, and becoming better players. The last thing they need is to have to put up with this sideshow night in and night out.
Besides, Blake’s stats are better. Jason Blake has failed miserably to live up to expectations, but he is still playing better hockey than Sean Avery. Id rather see Blakes contract bought out than have him traded for such a cancerous filth like Avery.
That would only be a major step backwards for us.
The Maple Leafs News Ticket. Yes, its another Leafs blog.
Why would
We want Avery? There’s no place for him here, his role is already filled on this team.

Maybe a better question would be: Hollweg for Avery?
I still wouldn’t make that deal unless Dallas threw in a 1st round pick.
by general borschevsky on Dec 8, 2008 9:05 AM EST up reply actions
I'd rather replace Hollweg for Beeler
unless we got the draft pick of course, Burke could then kill and eat Avery.
Seriously though, Have you seen the Beeler Boogard duals? When the hell did Wade learn to fight like that?
Or is Boogard just not all that hot?

They
are both epic fails.
However at least Hollweg doesn’t embarrass himself with his mouth. Both are completely useless, they can’t score, they can’t check nor can they fight. Avery’s an agitator but the guy never fights or drops the gloves, he just pisses people off but back down like the little wimp that he is when the other guy drops the gloves, freaking embarrassment to hockey, at least Hollweg fights even if he loses.

Hollweg has one valuable hockey asset, Balls of iron. That is the limit of his skill set.
Avery is a better hockey player, but fails at being a man

I agree
Avery is better, but enough to be worth the price of admission? I think not, as any additional skills added would be entirely marginal and you’ll have to deal with his BS antics.
"God's in His heaven. All's right with the world." - Robert Browning (1812-1889)
The only way Avery would be worth taking is if he was part of a package that included something super valuble, IE the Stars first rounder.
If Avery tried to pull anything under Burke, he’d be in the press box every night for the rest of the season, no hesitation. And Burke isn’t stupid enough to ship him down to the AHL to corrupt our prospects

Well
We have the money, why not take him as part of a package deal and then just buy him out, or just bench him for the rest of the season and buy him out at the end of the season? I actually like that idea a whole lot.
