I go back to Billy Beane in a case like this – As much as Antro could contribute in 3 years it might be best (depending on the pick) to shift his contributions to the future.

I’d miss the hell out of him but I also want a Stanley Cup while I am young enough to hang off lampposts without worrying about my arthritic hip.

My question is why would McCabe do it now when he wouldn’t before the deadline? And would the Isle even be interested?

And Antropov seems way steep for a 1st round pick, at least for anything out of the top 5. Poni, maybe.

I think a shot at Filatov or Shen would be worth Antro. Anything past 8th would be pushing it unless there was a next year or later pick thrown in there, maybe a prospect.

Jared managed to post my reply about Antro just as I hit ‘reply’.

As for McCabe, maybe the long, long, long break from hockey and time in Long Island reminded him how much he loves gelled up wannabe mobsters.

McCabe’s contract looks better and better (in terms of paying him less money than his cap hit) plus he puts points on the board (mostly) so a team like the Isles that are terribly run might think it’s a good idea. Does that sound like dumb logic? Well it’s the same thing that makes the anti-Leaf fans say that Fletcher will trade the 7th overall pick for a bag of pucks.
