Is there anybody left, other than Gary Bettman, who thinks the current three-point system is a good idea?

No one with half a brain cell thinks that having different games have different values is a good idea.

Here’s a crazy idea, since it’s just the two of us talking.
What if you still had three-point games… but instead of being related to OT and shootouts, you made it related to goals scored? Winner gets two points, but any losing team that scores (let’s say) four goals get a single point.
It woudn’t be any dumber than what we have now, and it would actually encourage teams to try to score (instead of encouraging them to shut down and wait for the shootout like they do now).

You know, people rip ‘foreign’ ideas like that but the Tri-Nations uses a rule similar to that. If you score a certain number of tries or lose by fewer than 7 you can get a bonus point.
People are even putting it forward as something that the Six Nations should do as well.
