Leafs Trivia #6
Getting to the end of these, just in time for training camp. I had 53 questions in total, so I'll have to dredge up a few more or #7 will be real short.
41. Which one-time Leaf was the only player to be taken in both the 1967 and 1979 expansion drafts? - Doug Favell (Flyers in 1967, Edmonton in 1979)
42. The first player ever drafted in an NHL entry draft was a two-time Leaf. Who? - Garry Monahan
43. Of all the Leafs' first-round picks, who took the longest to play his first game in Blue and White? - Walt McKechnie
44. Who is the latest Leaf draft pick ever to play for the Leafs? (not by round - by draft number - i.e. a player taken 53rd overall could have been drafted anywhere between the 2nd and 5th rounds, depending when the draft was. We're looking for the latest selection in terms of draft number. ) - Staffan Kronwall (285th pick in 2002)
45. For two games in 1990-91, Ken Linseman was one of three Leafs in history to do what? - Wear # 13 (Mats Sundin and Gary Yaremchuk are the others)
46. Which Leaf holds the record for most OT goals in the same game (3)? - Ken Doraty
47. What Leaf held the unoffical record for the most consecutive consonants to start his surname with 5? - McLlwain
48. Who stripped Todd Gill of the puck in the last minute of the last game of the 1988-89 season, walked in alone on Allan Bester and scored, ending the Leafs playoff hopes? - Troy Murray
49. Who had the highest career point totals of all the players drafted by the Leafs? - Vincent Damphousse
50. Two 12th-round draft picks of the Leafs are now in NHL management - one is a very succesful GM, the other a rookie NHL head coach. Who are they? - Ken Holland and Peter DeBoer

Careful, The General and DGB are preparing their 5,000 word posts to defend Todd Gill of your ‘unwarranted’ smear ;)

45. Did he wear #0?
48. Troy Murray?
And no, I’m not taking the bait on Gill. PPP is trying to sucker me in, Bill Berg-style.

Convenient
No defence? Probably because there isn’t one…

Ya, I nearly fell for it too, DGB. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that infamous give-away. My view was blocked by the pylon on my head, but apperantly I was pointing in the right direction.
And #47 is McCllwain. Played for Burns in ’93 but I guess Burns hated him ’cause they dumped him on Ottawa the next year.

At one point, he was (and maybe still is) the last player to play in all four divisions in the same season.

45. He didn’t wear 0 (Neil Sheehy is the only person I’ve seen do that), but you’re on the right track….
48. Troy “&&^(*&” Murray is correct. Troy was also a Sen, IIRC.
Ah, he wore #13 didn’t he?
So if only three have done that, who’s the other guy?

One of three to wear #13 is correct.
Could leave the identity of the other guy as question 54, but nah, it’s Gary Yaremchuk.
Yeah, obviously I knew Yaremchuk, but who was the third?

Hints
41. early-70’s goalie
42. Leaf stints were approx 1970-73 and 1977-79. Probably have to google it. Wasn’t a big name.
43. Drafted 1964, played 1978. Pretty good #2 centre.
44. Still in the system. Longshot for this year’s team. Look at the question number.
46. Only one player ever managed a hat trick in overtime….
49. One of the first out the door in Fletch 1.0.
#49
Of course, Vince Damphousse

OK – that leaves 41, 42, 43 and 46.
41. A player the Leafs picked up to make up for a guy who bolted for the WHA and didn’t want to come back – not to the Leafs, anyway.
42. Hmm – guy played a good 10 years. Cups of coffee in Montreal and Detroit, then was a regular here and (I think) Vancouver. Outside of handing you the name, can’t think of a hint. Wore #20.
43. Still holds the record (I think) for being the most-traded person in NHL history (not the most teams – the most trades).
46. Little guy – 1930s. OT periods weren’t sudden death, so he was able to pot 3.
46 – Ken Doraty. Google almost didn’t come through for me.

42. Gerry Monahan
44. I always assumed this was Sergei Berezin, but I think Kronwall was a little later
46. Doraty also scored on Tiny Thompson to end the 2nd longest game of all time. Aside from that and the three goaler – 11 career goals. He knew how to pick his spots.

#41 is Favell isn't it?
41. Sure looks like Doug Favell’s mask to me.
Just to reply to my own post… he was picked up by the Flyers in 1967, and by Edmonton in 1979.
