Reading the Tea Leafs: Jeremy Williams
Following on the success of two other dormant series Chemmy and I have decided that in order to fill the gap in NHL news that we'll take a look at each of the current Leafs, possible Leafs on the Marlies, and prospects. We'll recap their performance last year, what we can expect from them, and how they can win our hearts (hint: signing the contract was a good first step...unless your name is Bryan McCabe Ian White). We have no idea how long of a series this will end up being or how consistent it will be but with two of us expect it to only be half as half-assed and twice as timely.
Jeremy Williams showing that he should be playing more games.
Contract according to NHL Numbers
$500K salary, $487K cap hit, RFA July 1, 2009
Age (as of October 1, 2008)
24 - January 26, 1984
NHL Seasons
Zero
Run of the Mill Biographical Information
Marital Status
Single? Either way, even sens fans think he's hot. I just want him to go back to scoring once a game.
Former Leaf he'd have to play like in order to be christened a deity
Nikolai Borschevsky. A slight player that needs to protect his spleen but has a nose for the net.
Biggest Question Marks
Does he make the big club?
2007-2008 Summary
Received a late season call up after posting 18 goals in 49 games in the AHL and kept his career starting goal a game streak going against the Flyers. Other than that, it was a dog's breakfast of time on the ice and linemates. Err...like a moose he started out big but once the hunters found him he was dead meat. If he would have played with more offensive linemates, maybe some PP time, then he'd have won some more antler fights. Does any of this make sense? Screw Moose.
Projected 2008-2009 role/team
I'd be hard pressed to see Williams be anything other than a call-up from the Marlies. He missed the AHL playoffs last season because of some rule I don't know (although I assume it was waivers) which was a big blow to the team and to Williams' development of his antlers (ie NHL credentials). He'll have to lock them with other bulls during mating season (read: training camp) but odds are that he'll find himself looking to stud on the farm for a while at least.

Jeremy Williams isn’t very exciting is he?

I’m sure you guys have read the brophy piece on Sundin and the habs and wondering why nobody has commented on it?

I sorta linked to it in my next post. Less then ten minutes and counting… Feel the excitement.

Welcome
Thanks for signing up.
Honestly, if it has Brophy’s by-line on it, I ignore it. I already let too many of those guys get my blood boiling with their ridiculousness and Brophy is just one too many.

Pffft you ignore it because you’re a blogger and don’t appreciate journalism. Just like a trailer dweller can’t appreciate the complexity and subtlety of a fine wine, neither can “writers” of your ilk appreciate Mike Brophy’s newspaper column.

My dad’s fiancee’s sister in law brought a case of Thunderbird, citrus flavored fortified wine, to Thanksgiving dinner since she was responsible for the wine.
Yeeeeup.

it’s not about his indecision that bothers me .It’s about him saying that what Gainey says is gospel?I believe Gainy’s team have won a total of one stanley cup and that one was questionable.Even as a player if he doesn’t play for the fags oops i mean Habs(not that there is anything wrong with that) he might not won any as a player, because those teams were stacked!and also always got the benefit of a doubt from the officals!

Thanks for filling out the profile too. That’s some painful timing!

Reactions
Here’s GB’s treasonous response and Torontosportsmedia jumps in here.
Realistically, I am basically done with waiting to see Mats return and I am pretty sure he’ll retire at this point. If he was all about just winning a Cup then he’d have joined Detroit. Montreal is not a Cup contender. They are the new ottawa senators. They’ll do really well this regular season and will get knocked out in the first round if they catch a bad matchup.
Assuming that Mats doesn’t want to win because he won’t join the team that has been his biggest rival through out his career is a bit much. If anything, it means that he isn’t willing to throw away his legacy in the same way that Ray Bourque did just in order to get a completely hollow ring.
As for his changing position, I think it’s just Mats slowly coming to realize that he has subconsciously made up his mind. He’s probably done.

Mats
Is probably also leaving the door open incase half way through the season he realizes he misses it too much and what a mistake he has made

Definitely
It leaves him an out but I think he’s finding that life’s really good when you’re a millionaire, just 37, and have a Swedish wife.

i’m at peace with any decision he makes. if you’re upset at his indecision, it’s your own fault. stop waiting for him. it’s pretty simple, really. if you don’t want him to jerk you around, don’t. i don’t understand why everyone still lets him be the story. it doesn’t have to be that way.
i don’t care where he goes – the habs, rangers, poker stars – he was a great captain, he served us well, and he wore that jersey and the C with pride.
done. let’s move on.

Nope, if I’ve learned anything in life it’s that you need to be holding a boombox over your head outside of your object of affection’s window.

i don’t understand why everyone still lets him be the story
Because certain personalities in sports (Wayne, Jordon, Ali) transend wins and losses. They are characters that are larger then life. We want to know what they think, how they feel, what they had for breakfast, and mostly, when’s the next time they’re gonna put it all on the line. Until Sundin says “Now” or “Never” the question will always remain – When?
by general borschevsky on Sep 16, 2008 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions
i understand that, but how many times are you going to ask him? that’s my point. when he’s made up his mind, he’ll tell you.
A Toronto sports blog, where we unequivocally and unapologetically support the home team...
But…what if he holds on to it? Why not ask? Does that make us like the crazy girlfriend that always asks what you are thinking when you’re watching TV? Nothing dammit, I am watching the show.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
how many times are you going to ask him?
Exactly once a day from now until January. So that’d be 104 more times about.

Brophy blah
I ignored the Brophy story and the response from the Blogosphere/Barilkosphere because Brophy trots this one out about every three or four months. There’s nothing new or insightful to chew on here, just a tired columnist trying to be clever/ stir-the-pot (and failing).
I hope Mats plays somewhere else. The Leafs need to give the ice-time to their kids and they need more top 10 (top 5!) draft picks. If Mats returns, neither of these things are likely to occur. And a leaf captain or leaf great going to play elsewhere isn’t exactly news. The MSM may want to consider googling Sittler, MacDonald, Salming, Pamlateer, Vaive, Clark, Gilmour, etc. before they pen their next mouth-breathing article.

Do they know how to use “the google”? They don’t even know that what they write the day before still exists online.

At least the Leafs aren’t the federal Liberal party, that’s for damn sure..
The carnage this election will be cringeworthy..
