32. Clear the track, here comes Shack, we make donuts ’cause we got the knack!
34. Wow… OK, here’s a few to start with. Leetch, Fuhr, Tim Horton, Lanny, Parent, Francis, Gartner, Sawchuk
36. Leetch, Red Kelly, Carlyle, McCabe after this season
(side note: the Leafs are the only NHL team that Paul Coffey never played for)

Yes to Shack, 3/4 of the Norris winners and all those for 34 are correct. I hadn’t been counting Gartner as it hasn’t happened yet, but that’s legit.
To make 34 a little easier to deal with, there are 11 (12 if you count Gartner.). One more had his number retired, but the team moved and put it back in service.
31 – Billy Raey
34 -Leetch, Fuhr, Horton, MacDonald, Parent, Francis, Gartner, Sawchuk, Anderson, Plante, Robert, Ley… am I missing one or is that it?

Anderson is another new one this year, is it not? Hadn’t been counting him either. (I need to pay more attention to current events.)
By my count, you’re missing two. One is a Hab that nobody remembers played here (recent retiree) and the other is from an expansion team that was trying to tie itself to its earlier incarnation.
Ley was supposed to be the hard one, since Carolina unretired the number.
Yes to Billy Reay.
33. John Anderson! I drive by one every day.

Which one? I know there’s at least one in the east end. The one I pass is on Dundas and Erindale Station road in Mississauga.
Yup
That one. I can’t remember when but I remembed when there used to be a blue maple leaf in the logo until someone at OTPP noticed.

Maybe I have my Mississauga streets mixed up. I am thinking of the one by the Loblaws, Blockbuster, and Beer Store on Dundas. The large logo has no leaf anymore.

Hmm – it’s in an old mall, but can’t say I recall any of those others. This is right near the valley where the Credit River runs through. Not too far from Wolfedale and eventually Mavis (heading east).
Sign to me looks like the same sign that has been there since the 80’s – a blue Leaf with nothing in it under a big hamburger.
Actually, maybe it is there. From google maps, there’s a huge lot on the other side of the road that could house those things. There’s only the one in Mississauga, from what I can tell.
Yeah, that’s the one I am thinking of. I am going to have to doublecheck because after years of taking that leaf for granted I remember waking up one day thinking “Where the hell did it go?”
Blog Road Trip.

Answers so far
31. Billy Reay
32. Eddie Shack
33. John Anderson
34. Horton , Robert, McDonald, Francis, Sawchuk, Fuhr, Plante, Leetch, Parent, Ley (since unretired), plus Gartner and Anderson later this year. Missing two – a Hab and a Sen….
35. all of them
36. Four – Kelly, Pilote, Carlyle, Leetch
Hints
34 – We’re missing a Habs forward whose number was retired within the past couple of years and who is still with us, and, to the best of my knowledge, the only Senator with a retired number – retired because he was the one remaining member of the original team when the bid for an expansion team was announced.
37 – He wore #17 and is mentioned in the Leafs by the Numbers post. Son also played here.
38 – Just joined the CBC, IIRC. You think of him as a westerner, but he’s not.
39 – Defender who cost us Stewie Gavin in trade.
40 – Godynyuk wore 93 for the same reason Fedorov wore 91.
You guys are getting good. I miss a few days and the table’s almost clean!
39 – Chris Kotsopoulos
34 – Brian Leetch – NYR
Ron Francis – Carolina
Tim Horton – Buffalo
Jacques Plante – Montreal
Dickie Moore – Montreal
Bernie Parent – Philadelphia
Lanny McDonald – Calgary
Rene Robert – Buffalo
Terry Sawchuk – Detroit
Grant Fuhr – Edmonton
Frank Finnigan – Ottawa

38 – Jim Hughson! GRRRRREAT SAVE BY POTVIN!!
right?
40 – The year he left the Soviet Union and doomed the rest of his family to a painful death in a Siberian Gulag?
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
38 – yes
40 – closer than you think. Federov was the first Soviet defector of the 90’s, (hence 91). Alexander was #93….
So he was the third to bolt?
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
uh-oh
I have information from an inside source that former Leaf Alexander Mogilny was the first to defect to the NHL in 1989.
Mogilny chose the number 89 in recognition of both the year he defected and his place in the draft
Oh wait. It says: of the 90’s! Read more carefully, goofball!

There was Sergei Priakin, too, though I think he was allowed to leave because he wasn’t really all that good.
Could it be the great Sergei Kharin?
