Loveable NonLeafs - Volume 2

Hot on the heels of the last installment, we have Volume 2 of a compendeum of those players that Leaf fans (hopefully) just can't help but love.

Oh sure, there might be the occasional GWG or questionable hit on one of our players, but by and large they're just difficult to hate.

Star-divide

Brendan Shanahan

As most people who are dialed in to the hockey media have heard already, Shanny has come full circle and has agreed to sign with the team he started out with, the New Jersey Devils. I'm glad to see he'll be getting back to playing after a bit of a break, and hope he can have a successful season.

Shanny is the type of player most Leaf fans absolutely love. Works hard, scores goals, and fights like a crazy demon. He's a smart hockey player and gives great interviews. Case in point:

Any player mocking the Senators is a-ok in my books!

Plus, let's not forget THE AWESOME FIGHT MONTAGE!

In addition to all that, he has some commercials that are actually funny. I couldn't find it on youtube but he was in one for cereal (cheerios, perhaps) that was pretty damn entertaining.

Alexander Ovechkin

AO is the TRUE young face of the NHL. He's so damn enthusiastic it is impossible to hate the guy. Even him banging up OLAS (on a clean hit - dude is a slab of granite) won't dissuade me from being a fan.

Just watch him skate hard down the ice, arms flailing, and feel yourself smiling. It's impossible not to! He's kind of a russian/north american hybrid player, with incredible speed and skill along with a hard-nosed physical style.

Here's hoping he can do a repeat performance of this during the season:

The more angry AO gets, the STRONGER HE GETS!

i'm enjoying these LFIV!

i’ve got oodles of players i can’t help but root for…

Roenick
Cheechoo
Fisher (yes, Mike, from the sens…)
Drury
Richards (Brad)

of course, if they ever wore the maple leaf, it’d be an entirely different story…i’d be obsessed with them.

Yeah I thought it would be fun to highlight some players who I still like, regardless of who they play for. I had a hab in vol 1, for god’s sake!

Although it is telling that Laraque lives in Edmonton in the off season.

Blurr – Roenik? Booooo!

Love Shanny though, and it’s hard not to like Ovechkin.

You know, I’ve always really liked Alfredson too ….

… no, just kidding. Man, my hands kind of cramped up just typing that.

Really, though, I liked Yzerman and Sakic and Lindros was fun to watch when he was at his best.

Nice series LFIV, keep it up.

Thanks!

I’ll go along with blurr though, ya gotta love JR just for the entertainment factor. I was was watching the post-game interview of Joe Thornton where he was standing next to Scott Oake all shirtless and sweaty, and JR yells from the background “PUT A SHIRT ON! YOU’RE SCARING THE CHILDREN!” Funny stuff.

Yzerman would have been in the first couple posts if he was still playing for sure.. I decided to limit myself to currently playing guys, so hopefully I’ll get into some more interesting (and possibly controversial?) posts as I go..

i've admitted...

to my love for Mike Fisher numerous times…

he’s just got a sens stink to him, so i’d never want to see him as a leaf, unless he left the team under bad circumstances and signed with the leafs just to specifically say F U to the sens organization…

but his being a sen does make it difficult to watch him play.

Roenick…I love that back at the top of his game, whenever h played the all star game, he was the one to throw the big hits. he loves hockey, and i love guys that play like they love it…still, i’m talking #27 JR, not #97…

Fisher

I hate with a passion. He is sneaky dirty and his born again Christian rep helps him get away with murder.

Yeah I’m not too keen on his whole “gonna go hunt me some bears!” aspect too.. Carey price is another bible thumping bear shootin weirdo.

Bears

Are godless killing machines and are the number one threat to humans so that part doesn’t bother me as much. We have to get them before they get us.

I like bears..

But then I don’t try to get anywhere near them, and if I was I’d blast them. However, I don’t see the draw in going out to specifically hunt em. They don’t strike me as all that tasty, and probably ridden with parasites, yum yum.

Said the man who presented a cogent explanation for his position that Steen in year one and Carter in year one were comparable players and that Maurice had ruined him in years two and three.

I think that’s what you meant to write.

You can’t just write that I compared the two because that makes it seem crazy like I was saying that they are both currently equally good.

Also, liking Fisher = traitorous. I knew that it was contagious! Chemmy, MF37, and I are going into quarantine to save us from the rest of you.

Hey man, player crushes need no explanation. Sometimes you just can’t pick the players you like!

Like me and Volchenkov, our player crushes are forbidden by the general establishment.. Makes them all the better!

heh
