It's Nik the Stick's birthday! What better way to celebrate it (and forget about the tough times) than by watching his most famous goal or by watching his post-goal interview.

whenever I see that name (Antro) I think of the Replacements song “Androgynous.”

Wow
That was EPIC FAILURE on the Borschevsky reference.
I knew, just by the screen shot of the video, that it was the goal of my life.
That goal always makes me teary eyed.
“Oh. Unbelievable.”

yes. no one, ever, should forget that goal, or that playoff run.
I think we should organize a group viewing of “The Passion Returns.”
I’ve got the video. I will even offer up my mom’s basement for the viewing. And beer. This is hugely important.

that's true actually...
but i didn’t know that until recently. it’s the great Dan Daoust, of course!
To be fair
We aren’t all old ;)
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
that's hurtful...
but true.
Enjoy being young-ish while you can… the time between being 24 and getting shitfaced with your buddies on a work night and being 32 and having a beer while watching the PVR’d game after you’ve put your kid to bed goes by pretty quickly.
i felt older just typing that. damn.
dude...
i’m 34, and i don’t feel old at all.
it helps that i’m incredibly immature. my 5 year old is more mature than i…
how are farts not funny to her!?!?!

i don't feel THAT old...
But every once in a while I’m reminded that I’m not the young whipper-snapper I used to be. I got excited about taking advantage of low interest rates to refinance my mortgage last week. What the F?? 8 years ago I just wanted to go check out a concert or something and get loaded.
Farts are God’s great comedic gift to humanity. My wife doesn’t know this but I’m already trying to teach my 20-month old ‘toot’. She’s close.
Nods sadly.

Oh God no!
That’s so evil, the world might implode on itself. Stop it now!
I'm not jaded, I'm just realistic.
In my defense
I can’t see the video because I’m at work
Also I did not state anything that wasn’t true, regardless of what the original topic may have entailed does not change the fact that PPP is an Antro-lover.

would Antro
re-sign for $4 million a year?

Hmmm
I don’t want to see him traded but I also don’t want the Leafs to bank on Antro putting together more seasons like the last two on a second line. I’d rather see if Burke can get him to really put his loyalty where his mouth is and see if he can get around $3M.
Not that $4M is too much if he can get closer to 60/70 points a year.

I hope Antro turns into a $3m player or a first rounder.

For some reason, that date just rings a bell, but for the life of me I cannot remember why?
Oh, yeah. Now I remember…

Why is this goal so important anyway? It seems like something everyone here holds near and dear to their blue and white hearts.

It was a symbol of the Leafs’ rebirth after the Ballard years. We had hope again.
And then Kerry Fraser stole our Stanley Cup.

My love for Antropov
The fact alone that Antropov has become one of my most reliable fantasy players speaks volumes about Nik the Trik and how far he has come for the Leafs. Kazakhstan, glorious nation indeed.
And, and, and, Nik lives in Canada all year because his love for the city could not be unabated. Beat that #13.
i love niky
but choosing canada over kazakhstan is a pretty easy call.
no offence to any kazakhs reading this.

In Honour Of The Occasion
It’s Nik “the Stick”‘s birthday! I’ve been so under the weather this week, I nearly missed the big moment. Glad PPP was there to celebrate it for me. To add to the celebration, and to fill in those who don’t remember little Nikki, here’s the reprinted finale from my first ever post, The Playoffs Remembered. Happy Birthday, Nikolai! I’ll always remember the time we had in Yorkville.
1993, 1st round vs. Red Wings. In Detroit. Here’s what I remember: I was 17, she was 16. It was our two month anniversary. We were gonna do it for the first time. I bought flowers, chocolate, and made a nice dinner. We watched the Leaf game. I never really imagined they would win this series, but I cheered for them all the same. After Wendel and Dougie tied it in the third, I decided I couldn’t take the tension, and didn’t want the heartbreak of an overtime loss to spoil our “special moment”. We turned off the TV and the lights, and put on Q107 to get us in the mood. We started getting hot and heavy, in that clumsy, awkward teenage way, which isn’t really hot at all, when suddenly the song on the radio, mid-way through, was interupted by the Q107 announcer. It was a flurry of hollering and mad excitement, frantic ecstacy penetrating our most sacred, divine, and tender moment. “What was that?” she said. “I think the Leafs won in overtime”, I replied. “I thought I heard him say Borschevsky”. “No”, she said, looking up at me, and then down below, “what was that?”. “Oh”, I said, “I think I got a little too excited. Sorry.”
And that is why I will always remember Game Seven against Detroit, 1993, and why my Leaf jersey has number 16, Borschevsky, on the back.
