FTB - Bittersweet
You cannot finish in last place without losing. That's a fact that is hard to recall while you are in the midst of watching your team approach their latest game with the same enthusiasm with which Chemmy took his second cousin to his high school prom. And it certainly does not help when you read that Garth Snow is pulling out all of the stops in order win Tavares.
Anyway, here are some links to numb the pain:
- Just how bad have the last 10 games been? I'll let The General paint you the picture. I think he called it Guernica.
- MF37 listened to the Andy Frost Show after the game. Huge mistake. Our mistake? Thinking that the early effort level could ever be sustained.
- TSM points us towards an important clip from McCown on concussions. Patrice Bergeron might be done for the year again and Van Ryn is still loopy. What needs to be done?
- Steve looks at LeafsTV slobbering over the Predators. Turns out that they aren't the drafting machine that they are made out to be.
- Ron Wilson says his team stinks and Don Cherry freaks out.
- Is Lecavalier overrated?
- Johnny Bower looks 100 in this 40 year old picture.
- Eyebeleaf misses his little Belarussian buddy. I do too :(

I’d love to make a topic matrix for Cherry. I think you could sum up every program ever in five categories or less:
Advice to kids (DON’T: flamingo, put your stick in front of the goalie, hit from behind; DO: put stuffing in your shinpads, emulate “good” Canadian Boys)
Open ended prediction that no one will remember (Jason Smith scoring in OT would turn Ottawa’s season around. Bochenski for the Calder)
Honoring/remembering dead Canadians
40+ year old story involving some combination of the Boston Bruins/ Rochester Americans
For colour, you could list all the names mis-pronounced each episode or the number of times he goes limp wristed and lisps when mentioning those who disagree with him.

Quick question
Kypreos and the other guy on Hockeycentral were just saying that the fact that Mike Dunham was warming up between periods last night exposed the lack of depth on the Islanders. My question: how would any other team, short of carrying a third goalie in the press box, not be exposed in the same way? If Toskala goes down during the first period, and Joseph gets hurt in the second, wouldn’t the Leafs be in the same position? Isn’t this common sense? Am I crazy?

The Islanders have lost their 1st overall pick franchise goaltender, their backup puts up a .900SV% over 37 games behind the worst team in the league, and they don’t have depth at goaltending when they bring in Mike Dunham who has better numbers than Toskala and they have Wade Dubliewicz who they’re trying to bring back from Russia?
Goaltending is the only bright spot of the Islanders.
