Leafs at Avalanche: Memories...
Vintage Leafs has a few more great shots
Well, it's been quite the trip down memory lane today. Not to say that it was all bad. There are two beautiful moments that define Darcy Tucker's time with the Leafs. There are none that define Andrew Raycroft's time. Stupid jerk.
Chemmy described this as possibly the last time that Leafs fans have actually felt pride in their team. The Leafs had climbed back from down 2-0 in game six at home facing elimination and they were buzzing for the winner. Tucker seemed to have laid the hit that was going to help the Leafs put the nail in the coffin of that game. Unfortunately, it did so for the Leafs as Roenick scored about 20 seconds later.
If you didn't go insane after this fight then you have no pulse. It really served to highlight how unified (for better or worse) the Leafs were and how gutless the senators were. It's one of the enduring images of the late Battle of Ontario.
Anyway, here are the two team's injuries:
Which team is likely to suffer more from those injuries? I'll give you one guess and won't even spot you the "Maple". This is another out of timezone game which works nicely this one time as other commitments have reared their ugly heads.
Anyway, enjoy the game. If you're curious about what the Avalanche fans are saying head over to Mile High Hockey. I tried e-mailing Joe about tonight's game but he's in law school so he was probably at a kegger.

My favourite
part of that video is Green circling in as the fourth or fifth man in and taking a pot shot at the Sen on the bench
Pardon my ignorance, but what’s the skinny on vintage leaf? Is he an amazing googler or what’s the deal?

I have a variety of sources.
Mainly, google and boredom/procrastination.
If I ever get my hands on a working scanner – I’ll be able to add even more.

I am in the opposite boat. I have a new scanner and my hockey cards are at my parents’ place.

Like when you were in high school and got an excused absence from classes because you had to go on a field trip.

Hey Baroque!
Field trips were the greatest. While I’m sure they all served an educational function, I was much too excited about missing regular class to even learn.
“Dear Principal, Please excuse my son/daughter for his/her absence today. I’m sorry for my handwriting as I busted whichever hand that I use to write. Signed, mom.”
I don’t know how they caught me when I played hooky and gave them that surefire note.

Well, even though your situation doesn’t warrant it at all, but I have to say this: NERD!!!
Suffice to say, I liked school so my skips were minimal a well. But sometimes holding a video game tourney with friends took priority on a Friday.

yeah, we didn’t have much of anything to skip TO, if that makes sense. plus i din’t have really good friends that were that close geographically
but if i ever wanted to be sick, i could use up sick days whenever i wanted.

Um,
You can have Tucker back if you want him. He really hasn’t done much for the Avs.
You can have Raycroft back to but something tells me you wouldn’t want him back. I don’t know why? Maybe just a gut feeling or something?

no tradebacks
Sorry. You’re stuck with him. We warned you…

At least they’re on short contracts.

So you are actually saying “meh” to having to watch these two for the remainder of this season and all of next? Good lord. I am not looking forward to it at all.

They may be short term contracts, but they’ll sap every good faith you have for them and the team. It’s always the hidden fees that get ya…

Anyone else find it weird that the recently dumped Leaf enjoying the most success is McCabe?
by LeafFanInVan on Jan 29, 2009 7:56 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Not one bit
McCabe was always an excellent d-man. His demise in Toronto was as much the media and fans turning on him as it was his own play. The odd absolute bonehead play aside, McCabe was a big part of some excellent teams we had. He seems to be doing more of the same in Florida.
by The Muppet on Jan 29, 2009 8:47 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
It’s kind of interesting because he was probably the most hated out of the bunch. He definitely got the most boos near the end here, anyway. But at least the Leafs also got the most for him in return, as long as Van Ryn’s brain stays healthy.
by LeafFanInVan on Jan 29, 2009 8:55 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I probably wouldn’t go as far as excellent, but agreed, McCabe was a solid defenceman who was mainly maligned for his once a game brain cramps and hefty price tag than overall game. His value still lies on the PP, but the fact that Florida plays him 22 minutes a night instead of the almost 30 minutes in Toronto minimizes his mistakes and makes him a more efficient player. Bouwmeester and Ballard take the bulk of the PK minutes, so even those defensive breakdowns don’t show up since he’s on the ice less.

Also
I think Colaiacovo is playing some good hockey in St Louis.

Just checked
Carlo has 12 points in 27 games down there. Not bad for the *rookie.
*this has to be his longest NHL season for sure.

Is this where we come to complain when Toskala lets in the first shot on goal or will there be another game thread closer to 9:30?
