The old Battle of Ontario: A couple of guys stirring the pot, a bunch of guys answering the bell.
The new Battle of Ontario: A half-dozen pot-stirrers, zero bell-answerers.
This may be the game that breaks my spirit.

The Kaberle whining was really pathetic. I want him off this team.

I don’t want him to fight, or even do anything to Spezza. But I hate that his first instinct is to whine.

Spezza wouldnt do that if Frogren was on the ice

Neil hacked Toskala when Frogren was standing right there.
Then he let Heatley and Spezza deal with Mayers and Hollweg while he hid.

What’s the difference between Chris Neil, Ryan Holweg, Jamal Mayers, Mike Fisher, Kris Newbury, and Sidney Crosby?
Crosby will drop the gloves.

Maybe…. but Crosby will also punch guys in the junk, so he has that going against him.
I'm not jaded, I'm just realistic.
He couldn’t do that in this game. I don’t think there’s a pair of balls on the ice between all 40 of these guys.

I was about to ask if there was an overhanging thread
In any case, Crosby needs a Gary Roberts from 8 years ago. The bodyguard rule doesn’t work for stars when Neil and Roy are your “enforcers”.

I would watch Coach’s Corner religiously if each week they gave Cherry a different illicit substance, waited for it to kick in and then put him on air.
CBC could run a little super at the bottom of the screen to let viewers know what Don just ingested:

I know
The man has no regard for his physical safety. I think he would stop a puck with his face without thinking about the consequences – it wouldn’t even have to be the playoffs.

both of these teams are so broken its starting to not be funny anymore

yeah, but if they werent so broken the Leafs might have actually shown up tonight

I never got the supposed rivalry with Ottawa. Yeah, the Leafs knocked them out of the playoffs annually for a while, but it was mostly media noise.
If the Sens contracted, I wouldn’t raise an eyebrow.
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
PPP and I have talked about this and we were wondering if this was a generational thing. Older fans tending to see Montreal as the main rivalry and younger fans (having come of age so to speak during those playoff runs) having it in for the Sens.
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
The Habs are the rivalry
The Sens are just a team that I hate so very very much

Sens are fun to mess with, but there’s been no real drama other than the consistent playoff beatdowns in my view. I’d put them at the same level as leafs – isles.. Cuz everyone hates the isles, or did anyway.. Effin’ steve webb!
The Isles are like a bad joke that just wont go away

Don't know
I just hate the stupid Sens because of their incredible lameness, and the stupid stuff their city council and team pulled in the playoffs. They’ve never beaten us when it counts, so they are just pathetic.
The Habs? Are hated because they have beaten us, and it is a real rivalry.
Does this make me old?
I'm not jaded, I'm just realistic.
I think it’s how you make of the rivalry. I always disliked the Flyers and the Leafs were never big with them except the 1970s. I was glad it came back during the Leafs long playoff runs earlier this decade, but the Sens seem to be more about their fans.
the fan part hits the money.
The Penguins are starting to get that same fan based hate. Some of their fans are getting pretty douchy these past couple years

Sure they helped immensely
But they were all made even more intolerable because their “fans” made them better than sliced bread.
I think the Habs rivalry transcends so many other aspects of life – the history, the language, the culture, the fact that Toronto and Montreal were (at one-time) the two most dominant cities in Canada.
Ottawa just can’t touch any of that stuff and in terms of geography, Detroit and Buffalo are far closer than Ottawa. Hell, Pittsburgh is only 50km further than Ottawa is.
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
Definitely
It grew most of its roots with the religious, economical, and language differences. Protestants vs Catholics, French vs English, blue collar vs white collar.
The Sens have this petty jealousy that doesn’t transcend time very well.

If Blake gets an assist on that goal..
…the league needs to seriously revisit how they award points.

I try to refrain only because I thought it was pointing out the obvious. Sort of like saying a blind man will have difficulty seeing.
I suppose, but if you don’t point out the obvious, you can’t be sure that people will know what is going on.

Say what you will about Hughson, I hope everyone can agree that Simpson is possibly the best colour guy around these days.. He’s really great.
Um, if Rutu is going to assume that position shouldn’t he be in heels?
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
ruutu was on his back on the ice, legs up in the air and wrapped around frogren’s waist. Rather saucy.
Frogren Pinned Ruutu to the ice by the throat and Ruutu used his skates to keep Frogren from laying into him, looked like he was mounted for a different type of pounding
