It should be organ music all the time in hockey games.. leave the canned music to the nba

by LeafFanInVan on Jan 3, 2009 9:24 PM EST up reply actions

Someone wrote about this recently and they made a great point about modern arenas being all the same – same music, same directives to fans (clap now, clap louder), same annoying goal horn.

It was so great when each stadium had it’s own unique vibe. Chicago stadium was so loud, Boston Garden had those crazy support stantions, Buffalo’s rink was the size of a small driveway and the Leafs organist played a crazy wandering version of Smoke on the Water during the second intermission.

Every sport has gotten like that

It took the construction of Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland to get baseball to start using the existing environment instead of making everything cookie-cutter identical.

That is totally true, it would be great for each place to play to have a more unique identity.. Nowadays the only odd duck I can think of is rexall place, who has the players benches on the same side as the tv cameras! Borrrring..

I bet they could have the extended organ version of inna gadda davida (simpsons style) during the first intermission too!

So, Neil takes a dumb penalty and basically blows his teams’ chance to get back in this game but he drops the gloves against a guy he’s got 6" and 50 pounds on.

Does Cherry applaud this move or does he realize that it likely cost the Sens any chance at much-needed points?

Welcome!

We usually measure Blake’s goal in fist pumps and punches to the glass.

White’s moustache always make me think of the Kevin McDonald sketch where the guy goes on holiday, grows a beard and the beard takes over his body.

That’s pretty harsh, at least there’s some utility to a douche.

Meh. Outside of the playoffs, the Battle of Ontario has pretty much been more on the scale of a purse-swinging incident.

Awesome that Canada won the shootout! They shoulda, they dominated the OT, that’s for sure.. without a russkie flopping down in front of the goalie he was helpless!

by LeafFanInVan on Jan 3, 2009 10:27 PM EST reply actions

The radio guys are putting up a question

That Toka was off his game tonight and his start in the finals shouldn’t be guaranteed. There may be a goalie controversy brewing, which doesn’t bode well in the future.

by bkblades on Jan 3, 2009 10:27 PM EST reply actions

Toka is the best bet. Even if he was off tonight, Pickard would be cold and the hardest competition he’s faced is the Germans.

by JohnnyG on Jan 3, 2009 10:29 PM EST up reply actions

I'm inclined to agree

I’m thinking Quinn puts the issue to rest tonight or early tomorrow morning and names Toka. He did his job in the shootout and played his best when it counted.

by bkblades on Jan 3, 2009 10:31 PM EST up reply actions

yeah, and the only goal i can really say Toka should have had was the first one (i never saw the 3rd so i cannot coment on it)

Because Taking The Leafs Seriously Is Not An Option

by JaredFromLondon on Jan 3, 2009 10:35 PM EST up reply actions

Tokarski Sucks

I fel much more confident with Pickard regardless of who he has played or how cold he has been. It’ll be tough to score 5 or 6 goals against the Swedes. I said he looked like Leclaire the year he blew the final against the Russians and nothing about tonight changed my mind.

I’ll deny it, while he wasn’t lights out I don’t think he was terrible.
That first goal was a laser of a wrister (he probably could have had though) the second he had no chance what so ever, same as the 5-3 goal. the go ahead goal should have been cleared by the defense, there was no way the Russians should have gotten the 9 or 10 wacks at the stationary puck. Tokarski had two defenseman an inch away from his face and had no idea where the puck was.
