Sniffing Glue Is Very Bad For You
2. The Tampa Bay Lightning will win the draft lottery and get the first overall pick in the 2009 draft this June. However, Ontario Hockey League phenom John Tavares, providing flashbacks of Eric Lindros, will refuse to wear the Lightning jersey after being taken with the first pick, scared to suffer the kind of misery that has fallen on Steven Stamkos this season. Even the offer of a bit part in "Saw V" from Bolts owner and Hollywood movie producer Oren Koules won't be enough to bridge the gap. Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke will steal the day by acquiring the rights to Tavares before the end of the night in a blockbuster deal that sends Luke Schenn and Toronto's first picks in 2009 and 2010 to Tampa.

Swap in Kaberle for Schenn and it starts to make more sense, doesn’t it?

i can get behind that...
but Luke is “untouchable” (quote from Brian Burke…our GM. The guy making the fantasy land trade in LeBrun’s imagination. Ring any bell’s Pierre?)

Yes
That deal makes more sense and Tampa can enjoy our 30th overall pick in 2010.

I think Burke’s claim that he’s not asking anyone to waive their NTCs is because his plan all along has been to ship out Kaberle and Kubina on draft day for enormous picks.

Either that, or his plan is that he’s telling them they’re waiving.

hahaha
Or his plan is to leave paperwork showing that he is working on trading them to Tampa or Edmonton to force them to beg him to trade them at the deadline to a team of their choosing.

Here’s a serious question that I can’t believe I’m thinking about enough to post here:
My understanding is that both Kaberle and Kubina have clauses in their NTC that creates a window where they can be traded, starting at the draft and going through the summer.
Question: when does the draft “start”? Is it when the first team goes on the clock, or when the first pick is made? i.e. Can the Leafs trade Kaberle in a package for the #1 pick at the draft, or would they have to wait until the pick was made and then work the deal?

One thing’s for sure. No one is waiving to go to Columbus. Not unless they’re enochlophobic. At least Tampa has nice weather and beaches.

I am just glad that you asked it first.

This was a fairly tongue-in-cheek posting by Burnside and LeBrun and should be taken as a little levity.. LeBrun is one of my favorite hockey analysts, him and Da-hat.
Part Levity
Part reality.
The Hat, Lebrun, and Brunt (when he does it) are all class.
