this is telling...
Kabby quote from the article
“It’s pretty much with Brian if he’s going to talk to me or not,” Kaberle said. “I haven”t talked to the GM and my agent didn"t talk to him. Let’s leave it at that for now."
"You do dat, you go to da box, you know, uh, two minutes by yourself, and you feel shame, you know, and then you get free."

I want nothing for the best for Kabby. I want him to go somewhere where he can get a chance to win, and where he can be appreciated.
Kabby’s a rudey.
If he’s got to go, he’s got to go. I dealt with Mats leaving, I’ll deal with Kaberle leaving as well.

Why not?
Kaberle is still the same great player. He’s just struggling right now. I think that the return can still be on the level of last year’s Jeff Carter and a first rounder.

But missed/botched trades become part of the mythology of a team. Much like the aborted Vinny Lecavalier trade this one is now a part of the fabric of the Leafs’ history. We’ll hear all about it when Carter gets inducted into the hall of fame.

I'll make you sob
The Leafs also had Ted “Terrible” Lindsay playing on St. Mikes, but the Leafs scouted the wrong guy because Lindsay was currently injured at the time. In Lindsay’s own words,
That’s how I became a Red Wing and not a Maple Leaf. If I hadn’t gotten injured, I probably would have wound up playing for the Maple Leafs. They had a pretty good hockey team at that time…
Tell me when you finished that big cry. I know it took me a bit of time to recover, too.

love it....
if if if…kabby had waived his ntc we’d have a 30g scorer as our first line center under 25 years of age.
but hey, let’s hold on to what we’re familiar with because it’s been working so well for us right?
change is good, embrace it

i can embrace change
i’d rather it not be Tomas going, but if he has to, so be it. i just meant there’s no use dwelling over things that will never be.
and you’re right we’d have a 30-goal scorer, but we’d also be down a powerplay quarterback.

Let me get this straight.
Burke won’t ask any of his players to waive their NTC/NMC. Kaberle hasn’t spoken to Burke about it. Kaberle’s agent hasn’t spoken to Burke about it. Kaberle says it’s up to Burke to come talk to him about it.
With this level of dialogue and these open channels of communication, there’s no way this can go off the rails..

Obviously when the GM is going to tell you he doesn’t want you here any more, you don’t want to play for a team if someone doesn’t want you any more

The rugged veteran, who was acquired from Anaheim on Wednesday, skated despite taking a red-eye flight from California to join his new teammates. May, who is scheduled to make his Leafs debut, will wear No. 10.
This is why Brad May is a good idea.

Buh-Bye. Sooner the Better!
Ok the one thing that I hated in that article is this quote: “Obviously when the GM is going to tell you he doesn’t want you here any more, you don’t want to play for a team if someone doesn’t want you any more,” Kaberle said at the Bell Centre prior to tonight’s game against the Montreal Canadiens. “That’s a different story.”
I’m sorry but to me, this sounds like he is saying, “if I get traded, its because they told me they don’t want me otherwise I would never go because I love the Leafs” Really? Is that how you show love?

i sitll think...
he’s a leaf until draft day…
i imagine this only came up because someone asked him. again. for the 1000th time this year (as in 2009…) if he’d waive his NTC if asked. he finally said ya, if they don’t want me around, why would i want to be here…
it’s him making a point that he’s yet to speak to the GM, now 1.5 months on the job, with the team on two road trips, longest tenure of the active roster…that’s strange. that he hasn’t spoken to him i mean.

How badis his english? It could explain a lot.
Fletcher: We can get Carter and a first for you if you waive your NTC.
Kaberle: I refuse.
Fletcher: Sigh… OK.
(Deadline expires.)
Kaberle: No wait, not “refuse”. How you say… “accept”.
Fletcher: FAHK!

KABBY – ’eh scooze me?

KABBY – How is Philly?
FLETCHER – Are you staying or going?
