FTB - Rage Edition

Oh how I hate the Habs. Let me count the ways Updated because I forgot some ways:

  1. There's Komisarek and the way he loves to hide behind the ref's skirts. To be fair, when he doesn't this happens.
  2. I know people hate talking about 'The Code' and the Don Sanderson tragedy certainly makes you questions parts of it buuuuuttt...if you are the kind of player that punches Darcy Tucker in the face when the linesman has his arms pinned or you try to fight a skill guy like Nik Hagman then when you actually decided to be a man take your visored helmet off you little cube of shit. As an aside, when May was switching from southpaw to righty and back again do you think Francois realized that he had bitten off way more than he could chew? Oh, and that take down move you tried? Get ready for the rematch you little bitch.
  3. The Kostitsyn sisters. Hooray! You have a grudge against a countryman because he has better hockey hair and his family probably was part of the party leadership back home and made your peasant family's life miserable in Minsk. Good for you. How about you fight next time. And no hair pulling because while Grabbo looks like the kind of guy that would fight like this you two look like hair pullers.
  4. Guillaume Latendresse. First, he gets so hyped up because he's French and the Quebecois need a French superstar to assuage all of their other shortcomings. Then, it turns out that despite being huge he is actually puny in heart and guts to the extent that even Habs fans started calling him Guimauve (marshmallow). That is actually kind of awesome on their part. And of course, he let all of that go to his head just like Ribeiro. I can't wait to see him run out of town.
  5. Oh, and now they have Maxim Lapierre! As if they needed another dirty little midget that doesn't back up his antics by fighting. Let's call him French Jaarko.
  6. The fake 100 years celebrations although it was nice to see Wendel, Salming, Sittler, Bower, and Potvin again.
  7. They have our 1993 Stanley Cup. Feel free to give it back.

I have to agree with DGB though. This rivalry is taking over the Battle of Ontario and I like it. More history, more rage, more contrast. The only downside is that it's more French but the bright side is that when the going gets tough, they'll surrender.

The rivalry

You know the battle on the Plains of Abraham lasted about 11 minutes (everybody there had to fit on two boats). The Leafs Habs rivalry has more legs. I liked the shot of Bower and Beliveau taking in the game together. Though Beliveau does not admit to it himself, most of his teammates would still rather spit than mention the names of any Leafs they played against.

secretly...

they all want Grabovski back and probably wish we took Guillaume Latendresse (6’2", 229lbs,) the guy who needed a linesman to save him from Grabbo (5’11", 183lbs.)

mentioned, I think ‘guimauve’ is utter genius.

I’m so happy someone brought that up – everytime I see him score I hear his inner monologue “OUIOUI! BELLEFACE! Je suis francophone! Je suis un Habitant! Je suis TABERNAC AWESOME! Francais plus but pour habs egale FOR-ME-DABB!”

OK, I’m going to get slammed for this, but…

I like Grabosvki because he’s a Leaf and has a little talent, and I like when he shows some fire. But doesn’t he seem like kind of a dick to you?

by Down Goes Brown on Jan 9, 2009 10:18 AM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Why?

He does have the look but I choose to assume that it’s the entire Habs organization that are the dicks and Grabbo is an innocent victim.

by PPP on Jan 9, 2009 10:20 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

agreed...

if he were a dick, I don’t think his teammates would have been so scrappy last night. Truth be told, our “rivalry” hasn’t been all that much to talk about until Grabbo came over and stirred things up.

I truly think he believes what he said. He has no friends on that team (obviously) because that’s not his team. He plays to win. Because he wants to win, and he’s spent time with all the guys on the Habs, he knows how to push their buttons. Who knows what he’s saying on the ice about their mothers and the seafood dinners he’s going to take them out for then never call them again …

The look, the smirk, the whole attitude thing… last night was a classic “look tough when you already know the ref is there” moment.

Of course, if he can score 30 goals then he won’t be a dick, he’ll be “refreshing”. That’s how it works.

Last year was really difficult. Picking up his pay cheque in a losing environment and being given the benefit of the doubt all year long. I bet he cried himself to sleep every night on his money-filled mattress with money sheets and a money-stuffed comforter.

You know what would have made me believe it was actually difficult? Showing some emotion, calling out the shitty players rather than watching the ship sink like Alfie is doing right now.

By all accounts, Sundin’s teammates appreciated him more, as 1967 said in another post, that he decided to stick around and try to get the team into the playoffs.

And I didn’t say anything about heart.

You’re saying that if the team’s losing, Sundin’s taking his paycheck and didn’t care.

He actually didn’t play with Chucker and Dougie very much, as I remember. That was Borschevsky’s spot. Maybe on powerplays.

I remember Clark playing with Cullen and Rob Pearson on “The Slowest Line in the History of the World”.

HIs 46-goal year (93-94)

was spent mainly with Dougie and Andreychuk on the “all your eggs in one basket” line. can’t recall who played on his off wing, since both Andy and Wendel were LWs.

roll the video...

because i recall him doing things like taking the puck away from kovalev in the corner, mainly because i think kovy was afraid of him…

and i recall him crashing the net with reckless abandon, and back checking like nobody’s business.

he was ALL OVER THE ICE.

I saw him fall a couple times, both looked like something my dad used to call “scramble legs” when your over excited and your legs out run your mind and you just fall over and look like a fool.
Stajan had a bad case of em too, trying to do too much in his first period back

It was awesome

how he got a 2 for 1 deal…

It was bad how he (almost fully) left his feet. Watch the replay in the vid near the ned, his right leg left the ground befiore the hit, and it looks like his left could have as well, but the overlay covered it up before you get a chance to see.

You can’t play two pin bowling with your skates on the ice. Plus, see how the Habs were already running away? He had to dive to catch them.

i thought it was bad that he didn’t hit three…legs in the air or not.

just watched the grbovski vid again...

over on from the rink.

interesting that all the talk (at least over here) is about what a prick Grabbo must be. On the video, you’ll notice, once Kostitsyn is safely behind two linesman, and with one foot in the door to his bench before heading to the dressing room, he smiles and says something to Grabbo. That’s where our guy loses it.

How many more times do we get to play these guys? Eventually, Grabovski is going to spear somebody…

i hate the boob brothers.

There is probably something that he knows that is very painful to Grabbo and he said it. That is bullshit.

wasn’t there something about them playing together on the national team or something? The Kostitsyn’s dad was the coach…

Expected

But it’s quite sad this suspension is the same length as the Kotsopoulos hit.

The NHL discipline board really has no idea what they are doing.

I keep watching that vid and I don’t see a shove, a push or anything, I see the ref going to grab Grabbo’s arms and Grabbo deflecting em.

It's so subtle...

but anytime you direct any force towards the official, it’s frowned upon…

borderline, it’s definitely not worth 3 games.

Ok...

apparently this is what all the fits and tizzies are about Grabbovski. commenter over on DGB posted this link, the first I’ve seen it.

that’s more than a tad embarrassing.

Wow are habs fans CSIs now or something?

They should have used the zoom/sharpen/lipread to tell us exactly what grabbo was saying too. Perhaps there are multiple butt-endings that could be solved.

He needs Q division to whip up some spring loaded shiv at the end of the stick for next time. Really give the habs something to whine about.

I am not condoning it but there is abuse for standing in the crease and there is three haymakers at a guy’s head when he is standing a good six inches outside of the crease.
