Ladies and Gentlemen, Your Toronto Maple Leafs!
Hockey. It starts tonight...(via torontoist.com)
We're finally here. Opening night. When the season ended a scant 6 months or so ago, we'd seen a glimpse of Christian Hanson and been recently introduced to Tyler Bozak. However, since that time we've met Happy Trails, the Monster, Komikazi, C and Nasty (my Nazdaq is rising) Nazem. Suffice to say, it's been an exciting six months.
Tonight, it all begins again. Games matter. Not only in November, but now. Tonight we get to see the team as Brian Burke sees them: a team with "proper levels of pugnacity, testosterone, belligerence and truculence."
Tonight, we see the Toronto Maple Leafs.
- The Truthulence speaks.
- At Heroes in Rehab, jrwendelman has a few words of wisdom for opening night.
- Steve gives us a break down of the Jiri Tlusty, Nikolai Kulemin andTyler Bozak demotions. Then, he looks at the Leafs October schedule and gives us some predictions.
- Zambonic Youth spreads some love out west and inadvertently (or maybe advertently...) introduces you to the greatest NHLer you never knew.
- Down Goes Brown keeps rolling through the divisions, with a stop in the Northwest.
- Norman James has his predictions up, and the reasons for PLAYOFFS!!!1 in Toronto.
- TSM has their prediction counterpoint up, and notes that the Leafs could make the playoffs not only on their own merits, but the lack thereof from the competition. Also, giving the power back to the people they ask: Who is the next Leafs captain?
- The Muppet is wondering if false-positives apply to hockey players, as Bob McKenzie's words about Stalberg has his heart all-a-flutter.
- MLHS kicks off the season with recollections of favorite Leaf goals from years past.
- Leaf & Lion breaks down the blue line and net positional players, with silver linings and clouds for all.
- Is three non-consecutive periods of pre-season hockey enough to gauge the capabilities of a goalie? Hockeycentric seems to thinks so.
- Even more than the predicted final score, I'm a big fan of Hockey Independent's predicted finishing move by the Leafs.
- I enjoy articles like this one because, as someone else put it here recently, I get the feeling of being wrapped in a warm blanket, all safe and cozy. It's hard for fans of other NHL teams to fathom the joy we get from having a GM with a plan...
- In addition to having a plan, the added bonus of depth on the Leafs has suddenly made the Marlies newsworthy again.
- Does the pre-season matter? We'll soon find out!
- Saying goodbye to one of their own, Four Habs Fans bid adieu to "Little Tits"
- Clawson @ Be Clever or I Sever
- Bloge Salming (with video footage of Mats retirement speech.)
- The Cheap Seats
- Hungry Leafs Fan
- Norman James
- Third String Goalie
- EYEBLEAF!!!1

SUNDIN IS THE GREETEST LEAFS EVAR
Weird
I was about to vote excited, when I saw the last option, and realized I am feeling pretty gassy. Weird.
I'm not even supposed to be here today..!
I also voted gassy, but I’m blaming it on the wide variety of beer I consumed with Chemmy last night.
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
it really makes no sense, especially with the olympic break, you think they’d pack some games in there

Somewhere on SBNation there was an analysis of the schedule and how even with the break they didn’t add more back to back games, they just shortened the break between some games. I.E instead of 3 days off you might only get 1 or 2.
But yeah 1 whole week seems a bit much.
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
yeah, it would have made more sense to jam a game or to and let off a couple after the olympic break to ease players back and lessen the chance of injury, but them maybe the leafs are the only one with that week off thing and its a giant conspiracy

Don't the Leafs
only play like 5 games in February anyway?
Un ananas (truculent) qui parle? Impossible!
That’s because the Olympics are running Feb 12th to the 29th. You could really only push one extra game or two in there.
i know the olympics are there
i just wasn’t sure for how long

I just got a report that Luke Schenn and Jeff Finger are rollerblading around the downtown core around King and York.

Opening Night drinking game
1 shot
-Whenever Sundin is mentioned
-Whenever the word truculence is used
-Whenever they mention that we will have trouble scoring
-Everytime Bob Cole says “Oh baby”
-Everytime they show Kessel on the screen in the press box
2 shots
-For every fight
-Whenever a Hab gets knocked down
-For every weak goal Toskala lets in
3 shots
-When Brian Burke pulls out the binoculars
-When Grabovski goes into psycho Hab killer mode
-For every Hab helped off the ice by a trainer
-Whenever blood is spilt
Chug a beer
-If Jim Hughson is calling the game
-If Toskala gets pulled
Now I know a lot of us will be heading out to the local watering hole for this joyous event.
I just want to remind you that an affair between the Leafs and Habs will always bring in some unwanted Habs fans.
Please give them hell and ladies, remember to guard your purses.

Are you friggin kidding me.
The quote itself says that the information is 2nd hand and may not be true. Seriously Canucks? Don’t you have more things to be worried about. Like hoping to god Luongo doesn’t get hurt because you have Raycrap as a backup
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
Also, If they want the NHL to look into Burke to see if he planned this months ago knowing that the special would air in September (On a side note that would be one hell of a plan) then really they need to look into TSN and Sportsnet for the number of rumours they toss around on the day of
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
A lot of Canucks fans over at Nucks Misconduct have a surprising amount of faith in Raycroft, and feel he was thrown under the bus here in Toronto. I’d love to see him have to carry the Canucks and watch the team sink.
A surprising amount of Canucks fans over at Nucks Misconduct never watched him play over 100 games. They have no idea what they are talking about.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
Gillis will fit this complaint in his weekly call to the NHL to cry over Vancouver’s schedule/flight times. Fuck, somehow Anaheim managed to win the Cup despite this gigantic disadvantage. Who ran that team again?
hahaha
niiiiice.
Yeah Gillis is a turd nugget. I wrote in the comments on the G&M – he should just grow a pair and confront BB head on.
I’m sure he’s scared shitless to do so, but crying to the league is so Junior Kindergarten sandbox.
What a wimp. Enjoy Raycroft.

has Damien Cox been replaced??
his article today is actually really interesting… with some good points, like below:
The ‘06 Oilers, meanwhile, rode a spectacular spring (14 goals in 24 games) from Fernando Pisani, who hasn’t scored more than 14 goals in an NHL season since.
There’s not one Leaf on the roster who could be Fernando Pisani? Or, more appropriately, Jim Pappin, the surprise scoring hero of ’67?

ooooh
except for the dig at the end…. low.
Interestingly, Wilson’s 1997-98 Washington Capitals were one of those noteworthy turnaround teams, sandwiching non-playoff seasons around their shocking visit to the ’98 Cup final against Detroit.
The Caps didn’t win. But Leaf fans would surely accept the same experience.
