Should Burke jump into the trade market, he’ll likely move players he no longer considers having a future with the Leafs; perhaps Alexei Ponikarovsky, Matt Stajan or Niklas Hagman.
The Hockey News: Rumor Roundup: Rumor Roundup has some interesting bits on the Leafs current situation, including the gem I've quoted here. More in the link from Lyle Richardson.

further down
although it’s already been refuted by their GM, he says that the Panthers are trying to move Nathan Horton.
never know what’s true, but seeing as how the Panther’s GM is an interim guy, maybe he just isn’t in the loop…?

I thought he was given the permanent label of GM?

Those are guys that could actually get assets for in return but I would have thought that he’d at least get a sense of what Stajan and Poni would want to re-sign before moving them.

according to the article, it would only be if the slide continues that Burke would consider moving these guys. it wouldn’t be for prospects or picks, but roster players, which to me, wouldn’t be much of a net return from Stajan. Poni and Hagman should fetch decent returns though.

When Kessel was traded to Toronto the most over-used argument about the value of the trade was “Toronto doesn’t have any player who even approaches Marc Savard. Therefore Kessel will not score as many goals in Toronto as he did in Boston and therefore the Leafs overpaid for him.” So, with fairness in mind, can we now reverse the argument and say “Look at Toronto’s team. We’re shit. If we trade you Stajan or Poni or Hagman their production will instantly increase the moment they land on your roster. Therefore we want more than their current value in return.” Seems fair to me.

People who comment on MLHS are generally retarded I find.
I swear every 2 days I see a comment like “GUISE LET’S TRADE JASON BLAKE FOR NATHAN HORTON STRAIGHT UP IT’S A GOOD DEAL”.
It makes my brain hurt.
yeah, and when they get an idea in their head anything you say against it makes you an asshole
