We had that kind of effort against Montreal, but tonight we got some bounces and pucks went in.
Ducks lost their discipline and we took advantage.
Gustavsson made huge saves.
Ducks first goal should have been dis-allowed. One of the better bench penalties I’ve ever taken.
We skated harder tonight and drew some penalties. They made some bad decisions when we were on the PP. They were getting frustrated. If you get a 5-3 you have to score.
Stempniak got rewarded, the only 5 on 5 goal.
We didn’t take too many bad penalties, but we took a couple.
Got to learn to turn the other cheek a little bit.
The last 2 games we played well enough to win and that’s usually a sign that a streak is coming to an end. It was only a matter of time before we could get a lead.

Who are actually playing fairly well right now.
Anaheim has been shit so far this year, especially Getzlaf.
We won’t get a zillion PP opportunities against the Stars.
Plus they have Eriksson, Neal, Richardson, Morrow, Ribiero, etc. They can throw more offense at us than Corey Perry and Bobby Ryan.

Ah but suddenly the numbers don't matter because our offense scored a ridiculous total.
Truth is, we would have lost based on 5-on-5 play. We were outscored 2-1 when it was evens.

people weren’t happy with a sub .900 save percentage with Toskala, and Gustavsson’s save percentage is around .893 right now.

After 2 games; plus, we didn’t need the saves at the end of the game as much as at the start. If the Monster didn’t make that amazing save and the couple other above average ones we might have been down after 1.

But, I think people were concerned with giving up weak, confidence deflating goals. Gustavsson at least made key saves tonight when they were needed.
But, we’ll see how it keeps coming. Like I said, more performances like this, and I think his numbers will improve.

and he made some crazy saves… but a lot of that was his own positional misplay. He needs to work on being square to the shooter a bit more… but yeah… he’ll do well I think (hope?)

5 power play goals on 11 power plays next game. In which case, Gustavsson needs to stop more than 25 of 28 shots to get the win in all likelihood if we want another W.

he has the tools, and usually his positioning is pretty solid, and his rebound control is stellar, also he can make that spectacular save if he is out of position.

I thought the same thing when I first received the boxscore on my phone. It said that the Leafs only converted 1 of 10 powerplays. It had me scratching my head for a while.
