This was a find by Harold over at Vintage Leafs. Interesting in places, hokey in others, but has 1939 game action with Syl Apps and Turk Broda. Note this is before TV, so the ice surface isn't painted white.

At 6:40 a woman who looks like the Queen gets hit in the head with a stick.

And the announcer says “Ouch”. It’s amazing.

Best part of the film by far.
Second best is when he says Toronto is playing ring around the rosy because, he guesses, they went to play defensively until they get back their 6th man.
They call me Splodeybones.
Can you imagine if a fan got hit in the head with a stick as a player was skating by today? They’d cancel the season.
In that video we all have a good laugh.

It’s funny because that woman is long dead

Did you know that everyone who’s ever eaten a hot dog will die eventually?

yeah, and everyone who ever hasn’t eaten a hot dog will also eventually die. So all you have to do is avoid falling into one of these two categories, and you’re golden.

I like chili and cheese on top of my hot dogs. I’m going to die sooner than most.
To quote Mel Gibson misquoting William Wallace “Every man dies. Not every man truly lives.”
I’m truly living with my chili-cheese dogs; are you?
They call me Splodeybones.
dont forget the sauteed onions

This is terrific
Who’s going to win? Evertone wants to know. Some like the Rangers. Some like Toronto. Wherever they are, whatevery they’re doing, wherever sports fans get together, hockey is news – good news – good enough news to bring us from the far side(?) – crowds of us - gay, hopeful, good natured crowds. They’re out for a good time, for excitment and thrills.

Those gay crowds always want some excitement.

Whoa
Conn Smythe was pretty close to sporting a Hitler-stache.

Wonderful stuff
How strange is it that I was pulling for the Leafs to tie that game up?
