So last week Razor, whose blog is hosted by the Dallas Stars, wrote an article in advance of Toronto going to Dallas about what the Leafs could do to turn their fortunes around. probably taking the speed kills approach, and if blake can forcheck like he did last game more often, it would create a lot of room for Kessel
Stajan is probably the best play making center with the leafs currently so that makes sense…and is sad

The Red Wings are also very much in the market for a goalie and I am hearing Toskala’s name being mentioned a great deal along with Giguere. I think Toskala is the far safer bet…For now. The Wings need to make something happen soon…

Does Detroit have bad salary Toronto or Anaheim would eat, since I don’t think Toskala or Giguere have much trade value?

Waiving Howard or Osgood goalie frees up ~$1M

The team has about $8M buried on long-term IR:
$3.95M Franzen (out ’til Feb)
$3M Filppula (out ’til Dec/Jan)
$1.25M Lilja (out indefinitely, post-concussion)

The far greater question is WHY on earth would DET trade for Toskala?

Because they are a team that, unlike Toronto, is not so dependent on spectacular goaltending, and Giggy is waaaay too expensive. They need a better stopgap in case Osgood goes down or needs the rest before the playoffs. Toskala may actually fit the bill, not that I trust anything that the fraud has to say. But if they agree to pick him up on waivers for half price and give us a prospect or pick for it, so be it.

the only way toskala makes any sense is contract wise, he’s cheaper and his contract is up at the end of the year.
