So we are going to fire our coach after 3 games?
You can’t use last year as a marker as it was a year that we were obviously not going to compete… so… umm.. yeah.
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
difference is,
savard was a rotten coach that had a cup contender and couldn’t get any results. wilson is pretty much the exact opposite of savard.

Chicago was not a cup contender when the season started last year.

Really? Most things I read them had them as a Top contender in the West, maybe not the overall pick to come out of the conference but at least be a top contender.

Not last year. 07-08 they missed the playoffs but were young, up and coming. The question marks were still there, I would have hardly called them a cup contender.

I didn’t say cup contender, but they were expected to make some noise in the conference and make a dent into the playoffs.

Also
they had some guy named Joel Quenneville waiting in the wings

shut up!
don’t put words in my mouth. okay, maybe that’s what i thought. i thought they were thinking cup run at the time and savard wasn’t getting any results. kind of semantics though as it’s a fine line and we’re essentially arguing the same point, no?

either way
Savard was still thrown under the bus in a way that Burke would never do.

Garrioch really steps out on a limb with this beauty:
I just don’t get the feeling he is going to be behind the Toronto bench forever

I disagree. We don’t know for sure that Ron Wilson won’t live forever, and we don’t know for sure that Ron Wilson then won’t continue coaching forever.

Ron Wilson could be immortal, but what if he goes home for a snack or maybe a shower, he won’t be behind the Leaf bench then will he?
That Garrioch’s got it figured out.

I saw MLSE install a mini fridge behind the bench.
There’s probably a toilet back there. There’s a Ron Wilson lookalike for away games.

None of this would have ever happened if Wilson had just started Gerber in Ottawa like Garrioch wanted him too.

You need to read DGB’s posts on Garrioch. They are great.

Garrioch had a tantrum when Wilson didn’t start Gerber for the game in Ottawa last year. Presumably he already had a great column written and had to scrap it.
And now he has the gonads to accuse Wilson of having a “meltdown”. Takes one to know one.

WTF Does This Even Mean?
l John Tavares plays his first game on Canadian soil at Scotiabank Place tomorrow. Wayne Gretky played his last game on Canadian soil. How is that for building up the rookie?
wow
I really can’t make any sense of that statement.

i THINK I know what he means
“Tavares plays his first game in canada in the same building where gretzky played his last, wow, this must be pressure inducing for the youngin”
who did the pens get for Malkin BTW?

The Penguins traded regular Evgeni Malkin to themselves and then awarded him the Conn Smythe.

Yes, lots of pressure… Tavares was what, 9 years old when Gretzky played his last game?

In his defense,
he does work in Ottawa. Ron Wilson has had his job for slightly over a full season now. One would expect Garrioch to find that kind of patience for a coach exorbitant, given his frame of reference.
