Attendance problems at Sens games. You mean Sens’ fans won’t support the team through highs and lows? I’m nonplussed!!

I love the writing of that article. So many shots thrown at Toronto beside the point, careful wording of Ottawa’s citizens being mindless bandwagon-hoppers, bashing of fans who follow a losing team for having “no life.”
Anyone who writes a small dissertation on his sports blog has no right to play the “get a life” card. It doesn’t even matter what your personal life is like.
The irony up and down that piece is just so… thick.

“Get a life” is a really idiotic criticism in any case. It’s essentially analogous to “have less passion.”

I could ride around in a Bugati Veyron all day with girls pouring out the windows, wearing night vision goggles, using a gold-plated M16 to shoot out the tires of people who cut me off on the highway, listening to nothing but glam rock and hair metal, while performing numerous life-saving operations in the back seat with one hand, and if I went home and typed up a 5,000 word piece on Sens fan attendance I could still not pull the “get a life” card unironically.

Good test tonight
This is a classic Leafs let-down game. At home, mediocre opponent (not that we can take anyone lightly), coming off a couple big wins. This is the kind of game it seems like we ALWAYS lose. Even back when we were good.
Would be a real statement to put the wood to Minny. The schedule looks friendly for the rest of the month. If we want to jump back in the race we need something like 14 points over the next 10 games (while it still matters).

re: the Ottawa "malaise"
this clinches it for me. Ottawa fans only support a winning team, Habs fans only support a winning team. Ottawa fans are former Habs fans, not former Leaf fans…
I have nothing interesting to say.

lotsa news about Ottawa
1. They need a forward:
"Very definitely, we have to find a way to get at least one more player here," he (Murray) said, acknowledging that player would probably be another forward. "I’m certainly going to investigate as we go forward here to see if there’s anything more we can do, and at some point we’ll figure out if we need to make a change."
2. They’re whiners (we could have told them this years ago):
"If we are perceived (as being mouthy), we have to change that, whether it’s true or not. I don’t think we do anything different, but if the perception is that, we have to make adjustments.
"If that’s our image, we have to turn that around through hard work and just shutting our mouth, maybe to the other extreme. If we are perceived as going one way, we’ll go the other way until it eventually turns around.
"We can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We have to keep working hard, shut our mouths and, hopefully, eventually it will turn around."

Need a forward....?
They lost Heatley, added Cheechoo, Michalek and Kovalev. That’s addition by subtraction.
maybe they just suck?
I have nothing interesting to say.
by blurr1974 on Nov 10, 2009 12:10 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Kovalev has sucked so far this year, he looks at his floating “best” right now.
Michalek is decent but Cheechoo is toast. This is what happens when you’re forced to trade a star for fifty cents on the dollar.
As for the whiners part… I don’t know if the team itself will turn that around, but the perception will stick as long as Sens fans are whiners. And that ain’t gonna change anytime soon!

The Sharks may choke in the post-season, but Wilson has done a masterful job of unloading bad contracts – Mark Bell to the Leafs and Cheechoo to Ottawa.

heh
I never understood why they signed Kovalev… shouldn’t you know before you sign him that he wants to retire with a different team?
Michalek has been playing well, Cheechoo’s injuries seem to have done him in though.

Turn what around?
At 7-5-2 they don’t seem to be doing that badly to me. It’s better then my expectation, at least. I still think they’re gonna miss the playoffs and probably go through a horrible slump. 7-5-2 might be the best they play all year.

it’s possible for a fanbase to see it’s team win games and still know that the team isn’t very good or isn’t performing well. The Sens were being badly outshot and outscored to start the season yet they still managed to win more games than they had lost.
Any team that’s got Alfredsson and Spezza on it’s first line has the potential to be a good team, and the current Sens aren’t there. There’s nothing wrong with feeling some dissatisfaction with that.

First in-person game of the season tonight
And in the second row!
…from the top. (Or is row 16 the very top?)
This will actually be my second in-person game between these two teams; I went a few years ago when Pohl (!) scored on a penalty shot. Needless to say, I’m going with the guy I went with to that game. Can’t take any karmic chances with a Letdown Game candidate.

Anyone read this article on the Hockey Night in Punjabi broadcasters?
It’s a neat read, and interesting to hear how they grew up with the game and what they are doing to help spread it to different communities that haven’t traditionally been included in hockey.
