Well, we know Komisarek’s presence is really important, and we still have some massive problems with a team full of millionaires who have “bad days” and “feel flat”.
Unacceptable.
At least there’s more evidence that Kessel is awesome.

Ya, I just don’t want to hear it. We’ve been so good on avoiding stupid penalties, then Orr really screws the pooch on that one. Also, although he gets props for courage, I was worried Boogard would just pound him into a fine paste. Holy cow he’s huge.
Poni, Kessel and the Monster are the only ones who really earned their paycheques tonight.

Orr’s penalty was stupid but harsh. That was barely a dust-up and those happen dozens of times without a penalty being called.
The Poni one was a backbreaker because (and please tell me if I am wrong) but from where I was seated I thought it was pretty clear that it went over the Leafs bench.

Because the league wanted more easy penalties. Shooting the puck over the glass deliberately was not a problem before they installed it.

Couldn’t remember if there was glad between the bench and the stands.
Also, I didn’t have a direct angle so guess it was a penalty.

That’s what they said on the broadcast anyways. It still clears the glass.
When any player or goalkeeper, while in his defending zone, shoots the puck directly (non-deflected) out of the playing surface, except where there is no glass, a penalty shall be assessed for delaying the game. When the puck is shot into the players’ bench, the penalty will not apply. When the puck is shot over the glass ‘behind’ the players’ bench, the penalty will be assessed.
I am Mikhail Grabovski's smirking revenge.

going over the bench
is still a penalty if it clears the boards behind the bench.
going INTO the bench is not a penalty.
going over the sides of the bench is not a penalty.
going up and over the glass behind the bench = penalty.

Lots of good cycling and puck pursuit but not many clear chances.
Lots of missing the net.
Long sluggish period after the score got to 4-1 until about 10 min into the third.
Two stupid breakdowns at 2-1 to make it 4-1.
Kessel hit the post at 2-1 on the PP and that was that.

One of those stupid breakdowns
was a result of the forwards being incapable of clearing the zone so they had to ice the damn thing so Schenn and Finger were stuck out there for eons… then Schenn was dead tired and missed a coverage…
Minnesota just out worked us when they had the PK and we had the PP, and they protected the front of the net better, and their goalie stopped everything.

He didn’t score to make it 4-3… or 4-4… when the Leafs had a 2 man advantage in the final minute, which would actually have been awesome.

Yes
Finger is under-rated. he’ll again look bad on that play where he and Schenn were stuck on the ice together, but that goal was Schenn’s missed coverage, and Finger had to cover the front of the net for him longer than he should have before following his man to the corner.

Unless of course
you’re saying they can’t move Bolland because of the injury… which I don’t think made sense anyway since he’s the younger of the two.
Sharp was likely the one to move either way from where I sit. He’s older and more established… both reasons to move him… one side means Bolland will continue to develop, other side means you’ll get more return.

It was more of a comment about asset management for Chicago. I like Bolland a lot. But they paid a ton for his potential when they knew full well they had Kane, Toews, and Keith up for RFA this offseason. They exacerbated that problem with a massive signing for Hossa. Obviously, the Blackhawks couldn’t have known about Bolland’s injury, but back surgery is serious enough for them to give pause. I fear Bolland can’t live up to that contract. And that’s a lot of money for a player who might be seriously affected with back problems in the future.

Dave Feschuk
is the new Damien Cox!
Indeed, it was impossible to pin the defeat on the 25-year-old Monster, not after so many of the Leafs, the 29th-place team in a 30-team league, played like self-satisfied slackers; not after the worst penalty-killing unit in the league surrendered two more power-play goals. So give Gustavsson credit for honesty: He didn’t spend the post-game media scrum pretending to beat himself up. No point in killing your confidence for your teammates’ sins.

Even worse was that dumbass article
that Feschuk wrote, purporting to be a “dialogue of the Leafs/Raptors dinner at Larry Tanenbaum’s apartment”.
Cocktails at 6 p.m. … and Jay Triano, the Raptors coach, astutely orders several. The surroundings are lavish. Tanenbaum’s home has an elevator, a ballroom and a plaque demarking the door of the Tie Domi Bedroom, named for Tanenbaum’s one-time man crush, er, a loyal and tireless former employee. But Triano is oblivious, lost in grim thought. He knows last season’s problems look an awful lot like this season’s problems, that the past two losses suggest the Raptors’ defence and rebounding are as thin as Ron Wilson’s skin.
Wilson, the Leafs coach, appears and slaps Triano on the back. “Hey, Jay, you think your guys are bad defensively? Last week the Prime Minister thought about declaring Luke Schenn a disaster area.”
Triano: “You think your guys are bad defensively? The only way Jose Calderon is ever going to stop someone from getting to the hole is if he’s reincarnated as an unrepaired ball mark on a golf green.”

If you’re interested, here’s an account of the game from Wild Road Tripper, who attended the game:

Thanks for the link, I guess...
Let me just summarize that:
“The Wild won because the Leafs are bad. Did I mention that the Leafs are bad? Leafs are bad. Now wait while I get Kaberle’s +/- and the Leafs’ place in the standings wrong. This ends the game summary that could have just as easily been cribbed from the highlights on nhl.com”

That felt like reading the Wild blogger on Hockeybuzz
We get it. The Leafs crapped the bed tonight. And where is your team? Oh right. Still last in the West. Have fun with that.

Leaf fan for life! (No, really. They gave me a no-trade clause when I was born.)
