Thanks Howie!
I just came across a real good Berger article which brings up insightful analysis about our home woes. Who am I kidding, its complete garbage.
"I’m starting to seriously wonder about the Leafs’ practice, this season, of having a lengthy ceremony before almost every home game. The merit of each celebration or observance is beyond reproach; they are moving and immaculate, and the club does a terrific job putting them together. But, they seem to be having an adverse effect on the players. In the best of circumstances, the Leafs do not perform well on home ice. This season, the fans at the ACC are quick to grow restless and vent their wrath. The players normally won’t admit it, but jeering from the home audience gets to them, and it’s something they probably anticipate with concern before the opening face-off. To have to stand at the blue-line and watch a ceremony for 15 minutes is likely distracting and unnerving for the local lads. The opposition team also watches, but performing at the ACC is not nearly as taxing for visitors as it is appears to be for the home team. Perhaps choosing not to interrupt the momentum of the Leafs charging from the dressing room onto the ice – amid the hoopla and din of Andy Frost’s pre-game introductions – would help the players stay focused, and react more naturally once the puck is dropped."
Thanks Howie! Yah, do away with pregame ceremonies, There's no place in this organization to honour Teeder Kennedy who passed away earlier this year, nor to honour the HHoF, and heaven forbid the fallen soldiers for Remembrance Day, the one honouring team Canada hockey was a bit weird, i'll give him that. Those are the only 3 I can think of off hand, WTF are you thinking Howard?
'Fans are quick to grow restless and vent their wrath' Are you shitting me? Nothing says 'I'm pissed' like a standing ovation to HoF inductees, or heartfelt tributes to Teeder Kennedy or Veterans.
'Standing on the blueline...for 15 minutes is likely distracting and unnerving for the local lads. The opposition team also watches, but performing at the ACC is not nearly as taxing for the visitors as it appears to be for the home team' ---Translation-> Ignore that bit about the ceremonies being the problem because both teams are in the same position, the real problem is poor play on home ice. Howie, in undermining your entire argument, and despite your best effort to do so, you made a good point!
Now bring us home: "But, while I stand by the blog’s content, I quickly regretted using the word “manure” in the headline. It was childish and disrespectful on my part, and Burke did not deserve such a reference. I apologized to him in an e-mail on Tuesday."

I’m quite tired of pre-game ceremonies.
It’s getting a bit too much. Start the damn game already.

Which one would you cut out?
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
Remembrance Day, Hall of Fame Day, and Teeder Night need to be there100%.
The salute to Hockey Canada was a bit marginal in my opinion, but its not like the Blue Jays celebrating the 16th and 17th anniversaries of the world series titles this year.

Don’t be dissing Back-2-Back Weekend! It was the best 16th anniversary ever! I walked past the Pat Tabler autograph signing table! What a highlight!

i was there, i thought it was just hilarious. only city in baseball that idolizes a coach more than the rest of the players.

Why isn’t the Hall of Fame Game hosted by a team with a player being inducted? Surely that’s more meaningful than the geography of the Hall, isn’t it?

ceremony on the following monday at the hall. its a weekend of glad handing.
extreme example, i know, but if it was in LA because of Luc Robataille, there would be enough people wondering who half the former inductees are being paraded out before. or, in a bettman market like ottawa they would likely be confused with all the talent on the ice and wonder why mike fisher isn’t there too.

None of those.
But I would do everything in my power to speed them up.
Give the HHoF to Montreal one year. I know the hall is physically in Toronto, but you could move the ceremony around Canada since the actual injunctions don’t take place until Monday.

And you know this, how, oh sainted protector of the well of hockey’s common wisdom?
I am Mikhail Grabovski's smirking revenge.
I'm all for long pre-game ceremonies
At my house Saturday is movie night for the kids so I don’t get to switch to the Leaf game until 9 pm or so. Means more game for me to watch. I’m pumped for the “Salute to Rocky Saginuik” and “Dedicated to Daniel Marois” nights.
I believe I screwed up some spelling but either of those gentlemen should be happy someone remembers their names at all . . .
Exuding truculence since 1963.
Howard just gets an idea in his head, doesnt really think it through and then just runs with it. The fact that he disproves his own arguement in this article proves that. Then when he receives a ton of backlash for what he writes, he just calls us losers and chalks it all up to fans being dumb and refusing to accept the ‘truth’.
There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E"
You know Howie’s got his crayola’s in front of him planning his next scathing article right this minute.
Of course
he stuffs said crayons in his nose, in order to give his brain deas for forthcoming articles.
