the point is, I’d be sad to see him go, less sad for an excellent return, but still sad

if he gets us a 1st or a dandy young forward (which probably not) then I will get over it

Picks at the deadline

That’s fine in theory, but if Antropov could only land a 2nd, what are the Leafs’ spare parts worth now?

Only one first round pick moved at last trade deadline and I can’t see the Leafs landing one this year.

getting one for Moore was robbery

I’m not denying that, but there’s no one on this team of Antropov’s calibre. I think it’s going to be another year of 2nd, 3rd and 5th round picks at the deadline.

I wonder if white is part of a package… ie white and say tlusty going, roster player and picks coming back? But then again, hockey players are entitled to days off for good performance so him not being at practice can mean nothing. Remember Toronto’s MSM is 95% crap, 2% filler, 2.9% ads and .1% substance.

I hear that, but i seriously doubt that even with the cap trouble looming in chicago that they will part with such a dynamic young player like versteeg. The veterans are more likley to be moved

"The only way out is in a body bag. Go Leafs Go." - Blinky

by Karina on Nov 16, 2009 1:29 PM EST up reply actions

yah, something is going to break and they will have to give up at least one young tallent. Be it Versteeg, Fugly Man or Barker along with Sharp, unless they can find a taker for Campbell or Huet they are hopless at keeping all of them

Puns, Innuendo and Bad Spelling, Yes We Got That

by JaredFromLondon on Nov 16, 2009 1:35 PM EST up reply actions

I am wondering if they want to get rid of Fugly Man or feel they need him as a power forward.
I think them trading Sharp would be a mistake, he and Toews are very close, and have good chemistry.

Also, I realized this weekend that I’d rather have Kessel over Kane, any day.

Toews is phenomenal though.
agreed on the Sharp thing, they need a veteran presence on the top 6 and he is skilled enough to keep up. Part of the reason i think versteeg will be the odd man out

I dont see anyone in the league stupid enough to take campbell or huets contract (Garth Snow maybe?). I could see fugly getting moved and Sopels big cap hit comes off after this year as well.

I think chicago will do everything they can to keep Keith, Toews, Kane, Seabrook, Versteeg, and Sharp.

Actually, I would probably just make a sign that said something about how pissed I was… But I would no longer condemn the wearing of those bags by people who were doing it specifically because they were upset about white…

And unless it was White in a package for like fucking Eric Staal or something I wouldn’t care. Versteeg is good but I really don’t think his ability is that amazing that it makes up for sentimentality.

This is true.. the “Komisarek Effect”… I just have such a huge soft spot for White because I was right about him before he started performing, basically he came through.

His trading would be up there with the Gilmour trade for me, even though I was only 9 at the time. The only thing is that we probably got more than Dougie was worth by that point, if it was the same for White I’d be a little less pissed.

i like Wayne myself. My brothers ex-wife was the nurse at this first kids delivery. she said he was talking about how awesome it would be to play for the Leafs then (this is years and years ago…)

he’s a 4th liner who can skate and hit. that’s his job.

exactly. I really like him and Orr on our 4th line. And I don’t mine Mayers there as well. It’s everyone ahead of them (save Kessel) that I’m not sold on.

by Karina on Nov 16, 2009 1:09 PM EST up reply actions

yeah, the Leafs actually have a decent 4th line, many games they are the most dangerous looking for the longest period of time, but because of the lack of finish (but come on what 4th line has finish?) they dont pot a ton of goals
the 4th line is the least of the leafs troubles

Puns, Innuendo and Bad Spelling, Yes We Got That

by JaredFromLondon on Nov 16, 2009 1:18 PM EST up reply actions

Our entire top 6 save for Kessel, needs to be replaced.
As far as im concerned, within a two years, Poni, Blake, Stempniak, Stajan and grabbo should all be gone with better players replacing them. I like Hagman, Mitchell and Kulemin as a 3rd liners and depth players.

I have nothing interesting to say.

by blurr1974 on Nov 16, 2009 1:35 PM EST up reply actions

Kulemin is a good second liner and will only get better, Poni can fill a 2nd line spot on a good team

Puns, Innuendo and Bad Spelling, Yes We Got That

by JaredFromLondon on Nov 16, 2009 1:36 PM EST up reply actions

I feel the love for poni and kulemin but this team is horribly bad up front, I realize that Poni is actually one of the few bright lights but the direction of the team and the direction of Poni’s career are going opposite ways.

I just think that the top 6 needs a serious shakeup. A full scale culture change and that includes poni. I really like poni too, but the team has been so bad its like all we have to cling on to are our favorite leafs.

I dont know… there are plenty of things to argue in favour of keeping poni, im just saying that they need a serious upgrade in the top 4 or 5 forward spots. and some guys who are favorites right now will have to be sacrificed for the good of the teams on ice fortunes.

There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E"

by Matt_Roberts on Nov 16, 2009 1:53 PM EST up reply actions

I’d love to upgrade our top 6 too, but realistically replacing them all is gonna take a while unless the Leafs can sign Marleau and Borque and all three of stalberg Hanson and Bozak pan out into second line players

Puns, Innuendo and Bad Spelling, Yes We Got That

by JaredFromLondon on Nov 16, 2009 1:56 PM EST up reply actions

No doubt that you are right about that. Thats why i was saying that it will probably take at least 2 more years, probably longer to do, but i dont doubt that it has to be done.

You can see positives in all of the guys in our top 6, but honestly, when you look at what it takes to go deep in the playoffs, the guys we have arent even close.

We definatley need Stalberg Hanson and Bozak to develop into good NHL players
