Islanders at Leafs: We're 9 Pts Behind
Puck Drop: 7PM ET Sportsnet Ontario
The future Brooklyn Islanders (8-8-7, 23 pts, 5th in the Atlantic) bring John Tavares to Toronto for his first audition to be a Leaf Killer. I firmly believe he'll score at least a hat trick tonight seeing as he'll have 100 friends and family members in the stands (call it $100 a ticket average and he spent $10K, yowza).
Wallin is out of the lineup, Finger is hurt so Exelby gains a spot on the blue line. Schenn will be playing with Exelby which could get ugly really quickly based on their foot speed. The Islanders are a very young team and guys like Sean Bergenheim have rocket skates.
Vesa Toskala earned himself the start on Saturday night so he'll face Dwayne Roloson who is sporting a .911 save percentage and a 2.86GAA in 13 starts this year.
Don't forget your SPG Picks, and let's pray the Leafs pick up a much needed win.

I posted this earlier in the FTB, but it’s basically the only thing you need to know about tonight’s game.
Tavares is going to score 2 tonight. It’s a lock. The only 2 questions that determine the outcome of the game are:
1) Can Toskala and the Leafs keep everyone else off the board?
2) Can the Leafs score 3 (plus one for every failure of Question 1)?
If the answer is yes to both questions, Leafs get the W and the streak(?) is on. If no, it’s Chemmy’s fault for not going out for dinner.

Yes
Tavares is gonna score two tonight like the way Ovie scored 4 on us on Saturday ni…

I will happily go out to dinner if you all want to foot the bill. Surely picking up our tab for the Chateau Petrus is worth seeing your team win.

What if you met in the middle?
As Petrus is predominanty merlot, I’d suggest Chemmy stick with a pork-based sub.
Bitter Leaf Fan: because sometimes there's no option but to be bitter...
Oh man...
Schenn will be playing with Exelby which could get ugly really quickly based on their foot speed.
I still don’t understand. This is certainly not going to help Luke the way I see it.
i bet luke gets paired with gunnarsson or someone else for most of his shifts, i bet XLB plays less than 10 mins and wilson rotates the top 4, spotting schenn in for 15 minutes of action
There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E"

Seriously
Being paired with a defensive liabilty like Exelby is not going to help Schenn’s development or confidence.

The Islanders have a $20M TV deal. They’re not leaving Long Island.

With the Lighthouse project run aground, the Islanders will probably move into the new arena the Nets are going to build in Brooklyn. Jay-Z a partial owner of the Islanders? Yes please.
They call me Splodeybones.

Stajan/Exelby For Sopel+1st
I’d like to see that… But I’m going to have to doubt it, if only, to not get my hopes up…

indeed, I’d do that in a heart beat

sopel has an extra year in his contract, right? I don’t imagine it is too steep though…

$2.3mill

hmmm, thanks, I wasn’t going to look it up since I’m in class atm… but, I’d still do that trade, considering the Leafs cap space next season…
...Being surrounded by Sens and Habs fans makes me feel intrinsically superior...
It necessitates moving at least one of Sopel. Finger or White between now and next year, because here’s our defence starting next season.
Kaberle – 4.25M, one more year
Komisarek – 4.5M, 4 more years
Beauchemin – 3.8M, 2 more years
Schenn – 2.975M, 1 more year
Finger – 3.5M, 2 more years
Sopel – 2.33M, 1 more year
Gunnarsson – 0.63M, 1 more year
White – RFA
Back into the problem of too many NHL defenceman, only next year Gunnarsson will be the only waiver-exempt one.

Right, I guess I was working under the premise that Burke will move Kaberle (I don’t want to see him gone, but I sincerely think it will happen)…
Hopefully, something along these lines (even getting a 2nd round pick) can get done at some point…
...Being surrounded by Sens and Habs fans makes me feel intrinsically superior...
more than sopel and a first?
what more could we expect?
...Being surrounded by Sens and Habs fans makes me feel intrinsically superior...
As a fan of a Western Conference team that routinely gets their asses handed to them by Chicago, I endorse this proposal.
2 more seasons at 5.6 mil?
i dunno if burke bites on that for a backup

Plus, that trade idea was only in response to the report of a 1st rounder coming back, which I think is bogus.
yeah, i do too, its probably a second at max

even then...
I’d take the 2nd rounder (for the original Stajan/XLB combo)…
...Being surrounded by Sens and Habs fans makes me feel intrinsically superior...
what would motivate the Ducks to make that move?

nice…….
any ball-park idea what he’s looking for in terms of a contract..?

yeah, Kabby plus
