Its gotta be Hanson, The kids been great….
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
maybe, maybe not, they may not want to expose him to this shit show just yet and screw with his mojo.
Hamilton is a lower risk in the fuck up his career department

I see your point. It’s a tough call. There’s something to be learned from playing for a terrible team, too. As long as the work ethic is there, hopefully the coach will shield a young player from too much heat. These are the days that I’m glad not to be Brian Burke.
Maybe Hanson will bring some hot streak…

hey, would you guys go for a deal like this? do you think the blackhawks would?
Exelby
Stempniak
Tlusty
4th in 2010
To Toronto:
Sharp
Sopel
2nd in 2010
There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E"
they have to do something relativley major in terms of the cap eventually…. with hossa coming on board now its not like they are going to lose a step. stempniak would be good ont he 3rd line in chicago….. i dunno, it makes sense to me.
tlusty is the wildcard….

by Matt_Roberts on Nov 24, 2009 3:26 PM EST up reply actions
The Blackhawks only save $1.6M against the cap by performing that trade, they’d actually save more money just waiving Sopel and bringing up a rookie. No way that trade happens.
the Blackhawks issue isn’t with cap room for this season. It’s with tagging room for next season. That move would clear up about 6.2 million for next season.

No, it’s definitely both. Considering that Tlusty’s going to get a raise and Stempniak really won’t make any less they’d be adding at least 5 mil to their roster including the rumoured $12+ mil for Toews and Kane plus whatever Keith’s getting and all of a sudden they’re over the cap.
Unless we’re saying that Stempniak will be let go after the season and that Tlusty will stay in the minors, freeing something like $4M but then where’s the advantage for the Hawks? They have a perfectly good team this year, and Stempniak/Exelby is not an upgrade over Sharp/Sopel.
Tlusty’s getting a raise?

here we go
“Players who earned less than $660,000 in the previous season must be offered 110 percent of last season’s salary. Players making up to $1 million must be offered 105 percent. Players making over $1 million must be offered 100 percent. "
It’s that “qualifying offer” thing we’ve heard so much about.
but Stempniak wouldn’t have to be resigned, as he’s a UFA.
So, at most, the Blackhawks would have to re-sign Tlusty at around 1 million per year, still leaving them with 5.2 million dollars in cap space for next season.
Once again, I said that. But if Chicago’s not resigning Stempniak, and they’re not keeping Exelby, why would they make the trade? Stempniak over Sharp is not an upgrade for the team this year, and Chicago is under far less pressure than you guys seem to think to move salary.
I don’t think you understand that Chicago can keep their team, sit on their extensions, and announce them in the offseason without ever having to move a body. They would like to extend their players now, but they don’t have to.
Bob McKenzie’s got an article on TSN detailing why they only really need to move Sopel, maybe you guys can read it.
They only need tagging room to announce the contracts for Toews and Kane. They can keep on playing indefinitely until they find a move that they like.
the thing is, the hawks are NOT in a position of strength here. they HAVE to shed salary for next year, the tagging room os fine for the meantime, but they will have to shed salary. That means someone they dont want to lose, will be lost.
Tlusty would be a prospect in their system for the future, stemniak would come off the books at the end of this year and either come back for dirt cheap or become UFA. XLB would become UFA as well, plus they would no longer have sopels 2.5mil or sharps 3.2 or whatever either. This is a good cap saving move for the hawks, but it doesnt make sense from a hockey perspective. The hawks are going to have to make a move that doesnt make sense on the ice, but will work out for them financially.
As good of a player sharp is, now that they have kane, toews, keith, seabrook, hossa and versteeg locked up its not THAT big of a loss either

by Matt_Roberts on Nov 24, 2009 4:46 PM EST up reply actions
There are two distinct issues here:
1. Tagging room – that is the total $$$ of contracts that expire in June 2010
2. The Hawks total cap for 2010-11
At the moment, the Hawks priority is maximizing the former so that they can finalize three big, multi-year contracts.
They have until October 2010 to sort out their cap situation for the coming year.
As for leverage, I’m sure there are multiple teams with the budget and the ability to generate cap space that would love a 2nd round pick for a dead contract like Sopel. So long as there’s more than one, the Hawks have options and the ability to play one off against the other.

So someone else besides Hanson is getting a callup. Cue the pointless speculation!

He’s a Marlie, a career minor-leaguer, he’s injured and on LTIR.
He also, inexplicably, had a minor fan club here in September and was part of the much-questioned VUCOTA stats.

could it mean
that someone is being sent down or traded. Aren’t they already at the roster limit? Also with rosie on re-entry waivers could it be him?
"There's been four different Cup winners the last four years, and I got one of them (Anaheim) and it was a fighting team. We're playing it that way regardless." - B. Burke, Toronto Maple Leafs GM
Rosehill
is not on re-entry waivers. He’s going down to the AHL now that his conditioning stint is over.

Rosehill didn’t have a roster spot to be taken. He’s been on a conditioning stint for 2 weeks, meaning not on our roster.
"The only way out is in a body bag. Go Leafs Go." - Blinky
by Karina on Nov 24, 2009 3:54 PM EST up reply actions
i think that a conditioning stint means he is still on the roster, why else would they have to have him clear waivers to be officially sent down?
There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E"
by Matt_Roberts on Nov 24, 2009 3:58 PM EST up reply actions
I can't find
where it’s explicitly stated, but to my understanding, when a player is on a conditioning stint, he does not count against the cap, nor is he on the roster of the NHL team. AFter the 2 weeks are up, however, he has to be put on waivers or else he will.
I’ll keep digging for proof.

he was over 2 points a game in the AHL

yeah, but I think Moen would fit on this team as it is, he is only making 1.5 a year and im sure Burke could squeeze him under with a few roster moves, but cest la vie
