Goals: Kulemin from Gunnarsson and Primeau, Hagman from Beauchemin and Gunnarsson, Hagman from Grabovski and Exelby, Stajan from Gunnarsson.
The Leafs came out and scored a pair early before letting Tampa come right back into this game with two goals in a thirty second span. Kulemin and Hagman did a good job crashing the net on the first and third goal to pick up rebounds; it's something we haven't seen this Leafs team do a lot of.
Once again our defense ran around in their zone which led to the first two Tampa goals. The third Tampa goal was scored off a bad rebound given up by Gustavsson as Kaberle left his man uncovered. Francois Beauchemin looked great out there tonight, he had a spectacular play where he ran down Ryan Malone and dove to pokecheck the puck off his stick.
Gustavsson wasn't completely blameless on the Tampa goals but our defense didn't help on them. He made a ton of huge saves through traffic including a pair of saves on a penalty kill that honestly kept us in the game. Any win is a huge win for this hockey club right now, but the Leafs are 2-0-2 in their last four games which honestly is pretty good. Let's hope they keep working on the little things and start to turn this around.

Hanson played great
He had a boatload of hard checks, came back and helped out defensively, won puck battles along the boards and his linemate Hagman benefited

Invisible isn’t necessarily a huge problem, no blaring mistakes (save the one penalty he drew)
But didn’t wow in any situation. I was neither upset or glad about his play

Eerily similar of that 7 game stretch. points in a lot of games but lets hope they can sustain this for the long term. I dont care if we make the playoffs, i just don’t want the bruins to have a top 5 pick.

Sorry champ but Schenn didnt Play any better than Exelby. He is awfully nervous when he gets the puck on his stick regardless of which 3rd of the ice he is playing in. He loses his balance consistently and is easy to shake off by a cycling forward. His indecisions also got his bell rung a few times tonight. I have no idea why he is on the team right now, nevermind who his partner is.

schenn has been out right terrible in maybe 5 games, he has been a non factor in 15 and has been pretty good to stellar in the rest.
Not what I expect out of a 5th over all pick, but not the end of the line demote him kinda thing that some are insinuating

yup, I’m saying he has had 3 games where he played the whole game exceptionally well

Expectations are always high whenever a new player gets called up. People expect him to do what his first game back? Score 2 goals and get into a bunch of fights or else he’s a big disappointment? Hanson was a ppg player in the Marlies, but there’s still an adjustment period. This is why the Leafs are hesitant on bringing the kids to fire because they’re not sheltered from media and fans.

Definitely a better effort. They haven’t fixed all their defensive zone problems but they were better in the third period when it meant the most. Nice to see some finish on offence as well.
I see signs of improvement, and that pleases me.

Some Wallin stats for the non-haters
0 goals in 20 games. Of the 740 skaters who have played at least one game (according to hockey-reference.com), Wallin is tied for 690th with 20 others who haven’t scored in 20 games.
Of the 487 forwards, he’s tied for 470th with 8 others. One of the ones worse off than him? Orr.
There are only 10 forwards in the NHL averaging more overall time on ice than Wallin that haven’t scored. All of them have at least as many assists as him. And all of them are at least the same +/- (-5) as him.

Hagman’s goal to make it 2-0 was beautiful. A hard blueline-to-blueline pass from Beauchemin, Hagman splits the D and with two guys on him puts it in off the pipe. If the scouts are indeed looking at him, his value went up with that one.

I can see Sharp making it. He plays a complete game, is usually pretty responsible defensively from what I’ve seen of him, is good at faceoffs and can score. I don’t know for sure if he’ll make it but I think he’s definitely in the mix.

Canada’s problem is they’re too deep in centre with not enough wingers, especially on the right side. Fisher doesn’t solve this at all. He’ll be like Rob Zamuner all over again.

First impressions stick. Crosby whined in his first year, therefore to some he’s always a whiner. I think he’s a great player and a hell of a leader, he’d make a good Team Canada captain.

Nice to know Russia doesn’t have much D. that we know of. Gonchar and a hurting Markov. A couple of others in the NHL that I can’t think of now.
Kasparaitus and Tverdovsky might make it. Playing in the KHL now. We’ll see. Nabovov and Bryzgalov their goalies it would seem. Maybe Varlamov there too.

I saw Joslin play with the 67s… I never saw him as an NHL-calibre player.
On a related note, they have McGinn there too (plus Couture in the system… doug Wilson loves taking players from his old junior club), I have a slightly irrational fondness for him. If McGinn became a Leaf I would be happy with that.
