A parsec was a unit of distance, not time. Solo was not referring directly to his ship’s speed when he made this claim. Instead, he was referring to the shorter route he was able to travel by skirting the nearby Maw black hole cluster, thus making the run in under the standard distance. By moving closer to the black holes, Solo managed to cut the distance down to about 11.5 parsecs.

I’m listening to the Fan590 and Mike Brophy is willing to give Kessel “a game or two of grace” before he starts putting up big numbers.
Nothing like having an understanding of the situation and tempering expectations.

Who is Phil Kessel?
Ha ha.
Guys I saw a stat this morning which I posted a story around at BoO. Not sure if it’s already floated around these parts but Marc Savard only assisted on 6 of Phil Kessel’s 36 goals.
So you know, maybe Matt Stajan can carry the torch after all?
may i point your attention towards this?

Stajan had 40 assists last season. Zetterberg = 42 Spezza = 41 Lecavalier = 38 Kopitar = 39.
Surely he can get the puck to Kessel.
Nearly 70% of Stajan’s assists were secondary. I don’t think he’s the straw that stirs the drink.
Bitter Leaf Fan: because sometimes there's no option but to be bitter...
as long as Stajan can hit him in the neutral zone when he is flying i think he’ll be ok, stajan is usually pretty good at finding the streaking player. he isnt very good at dishing from traffic

If Stajan “makes kessel look good” it is implied that he will be setting Kessel up all year. How could we afford to lose him down the stretch and possibly hurt Kessel if we don’t have another playmaking centre to replace him?

I’d argue you have the equation backwards – Kessel will be making Stajan look good.

1. Stajan’s trade value will never be higher
2. He’s a pending UFA and his salary requests will be out of line with his performance
3. He’s not the type of player you build a team around
4. Kessel will be playing on the top line, in terms of size, strength, and overall play Stajan is not a top line C
Bitter Leaf Fan: because sometimes there's no option but to be bitter...
If you’re thinking long term than this all makes sense. I’m just saying that if we turn things around and have a chance at the postseason, wouldn’t it be better to keep him and then maybe trade his rights for a late rounder if he wants too much money?

I don’t think anyone’s here to argue that. He’s been a particularly bad passer of late – all kinds of dumb turnovers the last game or two. But I do think that he’s capable of getting Kessel the puck often enough to make him dangerous.

Just pointing out that the whole Marc Savard is soooo good and Kessel sucks argument can be attributed to nearly any good center-winger combo in the league. Centers are supposed to pass to their wingers; it’s their job.
So of course, being linemates for all of last season, Savard would only naturally have assisted on a lot of Kessel’s goals. That’s what he’s supposed to do.
I’m agreeing with Archi in that I believe the “Marc Savard Effect” is way overblown.

Leafs took bruins best player, bruins suck a lot, bruins get Taylor hall with their own pick, Leafs gave Bruins Taylor Hall… sounds good to me.
Moustache Fever, not to be confused with swine flu.
Chara, Savard, Thomas were our best players last year, I’d say. Kessel was our top goal-scorer.

If you guys somehow ended up with your own pick being 1st overall, I’m sure some people would make the argument that Kessel was a big part of it.

thats the thing with picks, they arent a sure thing. the masses in toronto seem to think that we are giving up 2 franchise players who will dominate in the NHL for years. Most likley they will turn into guys like steen and carlo, or at best, antropov.

Funny Story
The reason you read that is because Doug McLean ripped off Gus’ post at MLHS on the topic and then completely misrepresented Gus’ conclusion (Savard was solely responsible for 6 goals out of 22 he helped create).
The Sun is going to publish a correction and maybe Arch knows if anything else happened to Doug but I heard he got a talking to about Intellectual Property Rights

Just a second
In the comments here (sorry, can’t link to direct comment)
Star Article by Zeisberger
Sun Article by Loewen
Both articles used the erroneous 6 assists (since corrected) figure that Gus came up with as the ones that Savard created that anyone would have scored.

I hate to say it, because I do LOVE when the media plagirize and rip-off blogs, I don’t see the big deal here.
MacLean’s mis-statement is just further evidence of his idiocy.
Loewen’s Sun piece attributes the stat to the Bruins, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that’s where he got it (why we would he falsely cite it?)
Zwolinski’s piece in the Star doesn’t cite where he got the numbers from, but that doesn’t mean he lifted it from MLHS. When the deal went down, loads of people had the math on Kessel goals/Savard assists (I tweeted and re-tweeted it as did Mirtle).
Bitter Leaf Fan: because sometimes there's no option but to be bitter...
The stats are corrected now. I don’t think the implication is that the papers lifted it but that they caught wind of the erroneous 6 assist stat from McLean who is, in fact, an idiot.

Runs on a 2A-2B-2C-4 line structure anyhow. Might change slightly with Kessel, to 1-2A-2B-4.
