A parsec was a unit of distance, not time. Solo was not referring directly to his ship’s speed when he made this claim. Instead, he was referring to the shorter route he was able to travel by skirting the nearby Maw black hole cluster, thus making the run in under the standard distance. By moving closer to the black holes, Solo managed to cut the distance down to about 11.5 parsecs.

Guys I saw a stat this morning which I posted a story around at BoO. Not sure if it’s already floated around these parts but Marc Savard only assisted on 6 of Phil Kessel’s 36 goals.

So you know, maybe Matt Stajan can carry the torch after all?

I don’t think anyone’s here to argue that. He’s been a particularly bad passer of late – all kinds of dumb turnovers the last game or two. But I do think that he’s capable of getting Kessel the puck often enough to make him dangerous.

About 65% of of Kessel’s points came with Savard on the ice. That said, Archimedes video shows that Kessel really excelled at creating offense.

Just pointing out that the whole Marc Savard is soooo good and Kessel sucks argument can be attributed to nearly any good center-winger combo in the league. Centers are supposed to pass to their wingers; it’s their job.

So of course, being linemates for all of last season, Savard would only naturally have assisted on a lot of Kessel’s goals. That’s what he’s supposed to do.

I’m agreeing with Archi in that I believe the “Marc Savard Effect” is way overblown.

I hate to say it, because I do LOVE when the media plagirize and rip-off blogs, I don’t see the big deal here.

MacLean’s mis-statement is just further evidence of his idiocy.

Loewen’s Sun piece attributes the stat to the Bruins, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that’s where he got it (why we would he falsely cite it?)

Zwolinski’s piece in the Star doesn’t cite where he got the numbers from, but that doesn’t mean he lifted it from MLHS. When the deal went down, loads of people had the math on Kessel goals/Savard assists (I tweeted and re-tweeted it as did Mirtle).

The stats are corrected now. I don’t think the implication is that the papers lifted it but that they caught wind of the erroneous 6 assist stat from McLean who is, in fact, an idiot.

Sneaky of them to fix the stats after the fact.

we’ll see. I have such mixed feelings about Mitchell right now. Though those two guys could elevate his play.

The Leafs offense

Runs on a 2A-2B-2C-4 line structure anyhow. Might change slightly with Kessel, to 1-2A-2B-4.

heh

Kessel, as good as he is, isn’t good enough to make them a #1 line on their own right now.

What’s the deal with the redesign? Is it an SB nation thing? Doesn’t look as clean.

Yes

SBN-wide.

They are working on SBN 3.0 though so this is just a placeholder.

Word on the street is that the move from 2.0 to 3.0 will be even huger than the move from 1.0 to 2.0.

So...

…how many minutes into tonight’s game until Matt Stajan starts being compared to Marc Savard and this therefore considered inferior?

i cant take it anymore, the kessel talk on the radio and tv is driving me nuts. the fact that he wont score 40 and make the leafs a cup contender this year is all they talk about! that and the fact that we dont have marc savard. FUCK MARC SAVARD

Stajan had 40 assists feeding the puck to Antropov and Poni last season.

He’s no Savard, but he’ll do.
