Around SBN: Which Players Will Join The 3,000-Hit Club?

One potentially key factor on that front is that Kessel’s production last season with the Boston Bruins came in large part at even strength, with just eight of his goals scored on the power play. Only six players – Alex Ovechkin, Ilya Kovalchuk, Zach Parise, Marian Hossa, Rick Nash and Jeff Carter – had more even-strength goals than Kessel last season, and 13 games into this season, that’s precisely where Toronto needs a boost.

James Mirtle tries to avoid H1N1 as he reports on Ron Wilson's attempts to get blood from a stone. Just kidding. Goals will come.

The Leafs are getting killed at evens which is a big change post-lockout (at least for the first three years) so any boost would be a godsend.

as anyone ever thought about trading for him? He looks like a decent little player.

Maybe some sort of Kaberle package would work. Do you think? Throw in a pick? ANyone? ANyone?

so say with carter the leafs finnished 4 places higher (he hadn’t broken out yet so and his impact wouldnt have been that great for the games after the deadline) and the leafs drafted 11th
the 11th and the 13th over all plus whatever else was thrown in probably coulda got the leafs to 5th

oh please stop talking about this

it hurts my heart. There’s no question we would currently have Carter + Schenn or close equivalent – Kaberle. I love Kabby, but I’m sorry, I say that’s not a 1-11 team

by pevans on Nov 5, 2009 3:13 PM EST up reply actions

we wouldn't have Schenn

we’d have Doughty, Bogosian or Stamkos.

Two firsts could get you first overall. That said, they might have sit pat and taken a guy like Boedker or Hodgson

by JaredFromLondon on Nov 5, 2009 3:28 PM EST up reply actions

After Kaberle

there’s nothing left to trade but picks.

If they traded for Carter, I can’t see them taking a shot for Stamkos, they’d be looking for a winger to play with Carter, and chances are that could have been Boedker.

If they still wanted a d-man, Tyler Meyers would have been the last one of the top 10 on the board I think.

Sucks we gave guys away but that’s how the chips fall sometimes. We had two of the best goaltending prospects in the league and needed a goalie who was ready to play.

oh sweet fcking christ, enough with jeff carter.

everyone forgets carter was playing like sh8t before the trade deadline that year. That’s why Philly was trying to shop him. He only stepped it up after he was embarrassed by his name being tossed around as trade bait. He scored 15 pts in 18 games from mar 1st to the end of the season. He had scored 38 pts in 64 games prior.

Regardless, IT’S TIME TO LET IT GO PEOPLE.

In fact

I’d just like to point out that Voracek is 20 years old and he’s on pace to score 23 goals and put up 58 points. AT 20!!!

Kessel put up 60 points last year at 21… and we’re all ready to foist him aloft as our (latest) saviour. If we had Voracek feeding him pucks on the power play for the future they might both be shooting out the lights for YEARS.

Oh and they both play RW so we might actually have a balanced attack in the future. Plus we’d have another 2nd round pick to draft… and that never hurts.
