I will remember it well! I was sitting in the exact seat I am sitting right now as I type this. I was wearing my Luke Schenn jersey and I was sipping on a coke. I almost spilled it all over the place when he scored. I yelled out loud even though I was alone. It was glorious.

I ain’t gonna lie, I thought he stole Blake’s goal

Who gives a toss

Long term, Blake is gonna do better out of having Kessel around than not having someone who might borderline poach the odd goal off him.

And anyway, if he hadn’t been there to scoop it in, Lidstrom might have got there to scoop it OUT.

And Blake still gets a point for it anyway.

Lidstrom wasn’t going to get it anyone who saw the play can tell you that, and saying that if it wasn’t Kessel it would have been some else doesn’t really matter, no one should do that to a teammate. My only point was that for his first goal as a Leaf, it would’ve been better if it wasn’t a stolen one thats all. Its hard to get goals in the NHL and Blake desired that one.

Personally, I thought it was both poignant and appropriate.
All the goals Kessel will score>>>>all the goals Blake should’ve/might’ve scored.
He he.

I am Mikhail Grabovski's smirking revenge.

What are you talking about? Anyone who plays hockey knows that if there’s a puck dribbling in the crease you bang it in: its instinctual. It’s not as if Kessel was like “Look, Blake is about to score, but I’m going to hit the puck so the goal is mine, muhahaha!”… seriously, he was just playing hockey. Its not stealing and he didn’t “do that to a teammate”.

Exactly!

Agree

You don’t take chances which is what Kessel said himself. Boo-hoo Blake loses a goal. Much more preferable to having him watch the puck get pulled off the line.

Exatomundo, anyone would do what Kessel did. I’ve done that a couple of times, though in my case I was able to tell the referee to give the goal to the guy who shot it (which earned me being named captain one year), something that could never happen in the NHL.

That was totally what Kessel was like! Didn’t you see the moustache….and the monocle?

by Theodles on Nov 8, 2009 3:13 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

I was about 17 rows up, had a great view of it. And I thought, Jason Blake is gonna be pissed that Kessel sniped his goal.

When I saw it on the tube, I actually couldn’t believe he did that

pure reactionary, he didnt do it to pad his stats he did it to guarantee the puck went in, most situations like that the defense is all over you and you gotta shovel it in quick

It's not curling.

You don’t sit around and wait to see where it ends up! Stuff it in if you have any chance to. Blake won’t harbour any ill will about it and Phillip wouldn’t either if the roles were reversed.

Trust me, no one in that room gives a crack. This is a mountain/molehill situation kids.

Plus it evened out anyway. Kessel’s shot went in off of Mitchell’s stick later, so Kessel got the assist instead of the goal. Who cares about Blake anyway? As long as Kessel gets his goal that’s all that matters right?

No Some friend of the wifes since elementary or something but they had lost touch over the years and dont keep base so I dont know them at all.

I left the reception just in time to listen to 3 minutes of the 2nd period in the car on the way home and then watch the 3rd, but I missed Kessel’s goal.
