Is Schenn back in?
How about Cox saying that Schenn is being mishandled by the leafs and that he is going to be the next Luke Richardson….
There is no "I" in team, but there is an "M" and an "E"

I'm actually damn sick & tired
of the whole Schenn/Richardson correlation bullshit. To me, the only things the two have in common are their first names (Luke) and their jersey numbers (2).

Schenn and Richardson
They were both first round Leaf picks.
The were both taken seventh overall
They both started in the bigs at 18 rather than skating an extra year of junior/ coming up through the A.
They’re both defensive D-men with little to no offensive upside.
Bitter Leaf Fan: because sometimes there's no option but to be bitter...
I’d quibble on the last point only because Schenn’s never really gotten a crack at showing that he has any offensive upside.

Though we did see flashes of it last season...

Cox seems to think that the leafs have already killed any offensive upside that schenn may have had…. i find that hard to buy

You bring up a great point
My question is, why would a writer for a team want to tell everyone who reads his columns that the team he writes for isn’t going anywhere?

It's even worse on HFBoards...
the Leafs forum people (well some of them, anyway) actually made up threads suggesting Schenn be traded and such.

Thornton, Heatley, Boyle, Nabokov, Marleau, Setoguci and Pavelski for Schenn, Blake and the Vesa?

For me,
it woud take Crosby/Ovechkin and two first rounders in exchange for Schenn.
Seeing as that won’t happen any time soon, you can guess my sentiments towards any trades concerning the kid.

agreed, I love Schenn, but if the trade makes the Leafs better, IE Bobby Ryan or something for Schenn, I’ll pack his bags

You know what’s really shocking? If the Leafs wanted to trade for Bogosian or Doughty, it would take Schenn plus a first round draft pick, and almost certainly more.
i still think Schenn will be better defensively than either of them, but not even close in offense

I’d quibble on the last point only because Schenn’s never really gotten a crack at showing that he has any offensive upside.
I like Luke Schenn and think he’s got a big future with the club, but he hasn’t shown any offensive upside. It’s not a knock, it’s just my reading of his play.
If he’s got a shot from the point, I’ve never seen it. In 100GP he’s 2-16-18. These aren’t the traits of a dman with much offensive potential.
Bitter Leaf Fan: because sometimes there's no option but to be bitter...
Schenns offensive ceiling is probably 10-20-30
and that is pushing it, and assuming he gets some decent PP time

if you look at Schenn’s WHL numbers, you’ll see he never produced all that much to begin with. People like to use Weber as a reason for the extra year of junior, but Weber already was producing at a higher PPG clip than Schenn ever was. Hickey and Alzner are other guys who did the full time in junior and were producing at higher PPG rates.
Tyler Meyers last three seasons of WHL action were 0.25, 0.29 and 0.72 PPG. I think this is more a case of hind sight than projections. Also, as has been pointed out previously, Meyers is getting softer minutes than Schenn.
Long story short, Schenn didn’t look like he was going to be that much of an offensive factor (0.18, 0.4, 0.49 PPG in the WHL) so who cares? Why not celebrate what he projects to do very well, instead of tearing him down for things he never looked like he’d be able to do in the first place?
I have nothing interesting to say.

We need to keep this great quote on hand like the “Oh Snap!” gif
I think this is the single biggest challenge with assessing Leaf players – they are often measured by what they don’t bring to the ice.

Sure it would be nice for Schenn to contribute more offensively but I don’t expect it. If he develops into what he was always projected to be, a top-notch shutdown d-man, then I’ll be happy.

Kessel sucks i mean, why the hell didnt he step up when monster went down? I havnt seen him make one glove save or even cover the puck in the crease!

I don’t understand why Schenn being compared to Richardson is such a bad thing. Richardson played over 1400 games in his NHL career. He just wasn’t a “cornerstone/franchise” defenseman like Scott Stevens or Adam Foote (and putting Foote as a “franchise” defenseman is pushing it)

Schenn will be fine. I don’t have a read on exactly what he will be when he fully develops but I’m confident that he will be an excellent defenceman for many years with the Leafs. Wilson is trying to help and motivate Schenn by letting him watch in the press box on Saturday. Schenn seemed to accept the decision just fine. I’m not going to worry about this unless it looks like I have reason to do so, and right now I don’t think we’re at that point.

I’d say Robyn Regehr if you ask me. Both are tough motherfuckers and can shut down the best of the best. They can change the team just by being on the ice

Is there any reason why every big Leafs win has to be attributed in the MSM to failings by the other team? Was there a single article about the Caps win that didn’t mention their flight problems? On the other hand, how many bothered pointing out that in the most recent loss to the Bs, Boston had sat at home resting for 4 days while the Leafs played two games, including one the night before? Or that in the first Bs game they had shat the bed in monumental fashion the night before, making a bounce-back game almost inevitable? Argh.
GASP!
Are you saying the media might mislead us by spinning the facts?
NO WAY!
