Vesa Toskala's back. Kessel, Poni and Mayers light the lamp but it's not enough. The Leafs play in Buffalo on Friday, Buffalo was just shut out by Brian Elliott which means the Sabres will be bloodthirsty. Sigh.

Originally, I was hoping Jonas plays against Boston since Vesa was in net for the previous two Boston games, while Vesa plays against Buffalo. Now, I’m thinking Joey Mac plays on Friday, then call up Jonas for Saturday.

RE: Kulie

I repeatedly brought up the fact Kulie was the defensive conscious of the Malkin and Ovie line in juniors. Malkin even said that Kulemin helped him become a better player. But until he can ramp up his offensive game, I don’t think he’ll ever be a Lehtinen. Lehtinen was less physical than Kulie, but in his prime, Lehtinen was an incredible player.

I fully admit I’m one of the biggest boosters of Kulemin anywhere, but I’m not ready at all to call him even a Lehtinen-lite yet. He really does look to be a great 3rd-liner, perhaps, in time a viable second line player.

I see Kulemin being a lot like Hagman, maybe not as good offensively, but probably better defensibly

He’s scored 11 this year right? I like Kulie a lot. I think he came back from the Russian camp and played poorly. Getting it together now. I still say he will be Lehtinen-like sometime very soon. A very viable PK man, plus plenty of offence. I see greatness coming.

by Pyramid Power on Dec 16, 2009 10:14 PM EST up reply actions

also

he is in his second year playing in a north american style game/rink as well as being only 22 and again 2nd year outta russia. Lots of potential and lots of time to reach it.

At least we’ll get to see Schenn this weekend =D

Given the way the rest of the defense played…..we might only see Schenn as they sit in the presser.

by Theodles on Dec 16, 2009 10:12 PM EST reply actions

I wonder, is it a good thing that Schenn replace Exelby and play a measly 13 or so minutes? I was actually thinking a stint in the minors would have been the best course of action for Schenn so he plays 22+ minutes in every situation possible.

Supporter of the Sergei Berezin "Give and Go" - You give me puck, then you go to hell

by bkblades on Dec 16, 2009 10:14 PM EST up reply actions

I think we should give Schenn one more chance to get his game in gear, then if he’s still struggling let him play with the Marlies.

Puns, Innuendo and Bad Spelling, Yes We Got That

by JaredFromLondon on Dec 16, 2009 10:15 PM EST up reply actions

But 13 minutes is too small a sample. What can he possibly do in 13 minutes to redeem himself if he ever makes a mistake? I just don’t like this whole, let’s replace Finger/Exelby with Schenn when it’s not much of a difference since that pairing doesn’t play that much in the first place. I’ll welcome him with open arms next he plays for the Leafs, but something has to change soon for Schenn to develop not maintain.

If those numbers are merely filling in Exelby’s numbers, I guess I just don’t see the benefit. Schenn doesn’t play on the PK that often before he got benched (Beauchemin, White, Finger, Komisarek were all ahead of him), and his PP time varies from a minute or so to none at all some games. I just don’t like how his minutes are distributed, which are in essence filling in for the lost minutes 5 on 5 for Exelby or Finger when they’re not playing.

I’m gone for the night, need to get various things done and crap. See y’all later,

I can't wait until Friday.

I can make every Leafs game a drinking game for the next 2 weeks and not worry about hangovers.

They are like some great rumoured beast, everyone’s heard of them but no one actually sees them!

so...

i missed the game, sounds like there’s not much use watching it on the PVR. it’s only one loss, but knowing we’re playing buffalo and boston our next 3 games really has me bummed out.

for the record i think chemmy jinxed sh*t when he called for 4 losses out of our next 6 games.

Yesterday is dead, but not my memory.

Kessel had a lousy game...

…and still scored a goal? Wow…

The team played like utter crap, especially in the 2nd period. After the 4th goal, they seemed to just give up and show little effort. I was surprised by their play in the 3rd, and it actually gave me a bit of hope that we could comeback in this one. Sadly, that did not happen, as we lost to the Coyotes… again.

The way Exelby played tonight, IMO, he deserves to be benched next game. A lot of players deserve to be benched after this game, but, of course, that won’t happen. Exelby just seemed to turn the puck over everytime he touched it, and did not play well with Finger. I guess everyone will get their Bonners up again as Schenny will be back crushing the opposition like little bugs this Friday. Hopefully, he’ll come bigger, meaner, and, of course, TRUCULENT.

Bring on the Sabres! (Ugh!)

Former Toronto Raptors Matt Bonner is my guess.
