Stalberg will be recalled by the Leafs today.

Darren Dreger, TSN

a note from blurr1974 and JaredFromLondon - the Leafs are not currently carrying the allowed maximum of players on their roster. Stalberg can be recalled without the need for anybody being traded or waived.

Ooh, this is interesting.

I saw Vik play on Monday with the Marlies and he looked good – I wonder what Ron has up his sleeves?

I was wondering why he would choose to call up Wallin instead of Stalberg. I know Stalberg isn’t checking line material, but this speed would really help that line out.

by Farfetched on Dec 17, 2009 10:21 AM EST reply actions

Wallin is not waiver exempt, and was never sent down. he’d been a healthy scratch.

curious as to who is getting moved though. no injuries that i’m aware of. The waiver exempt guys are who…? Schenn and Kulemin I think. Anybody else?

I have nothing interesting to say.

I have an idea

Maybe when we are down two goals with 3 and a half minutes to go we can throw him over the boards instead of Rickard ( 0 goals, 2 assists ) Wallin.
What was with that?

I think he gets another kick at the NHL, probably next game, neither exelby or Finger were impressive so he gets one of their slots

although, near as I can tell, for forwards, the only guys waiver exempt are Kulemin and Mitchell. On d it’s White, Gunnarsson and Schenn.

How many healthy players are the Leafs currently carrying?

maybe send him down, but under the “win and you’re in” rule, he’s clearly done his time. It’s somebody else’s turn after last night.

he’ll be playing somewhere at the earliest opportunity, anyway

by pevans on Dec 17, 2009 11:39 AM EST up reply actions

Hmm.

I want to believe he only sat out last night because Exelby played so well against Ottawa, and RW didn’t want to send the message that playing great gets you a seat in the press box. Certainly doesn’t have that to worry about after last night, so maybe now’s the time to bring Schenn back into the fold.

Welcome back Vik.

I’m guessing Schenn will be back in the line-up for next game as Finger was horrible last night and Exelby wasn’t much better. Wallin is the guy I think who’s job is most in jeopardy. He doesn’t look like an NHL player. While some forwards – Blake, Stempniak, Primeau, even Mayers – took a while to get going, their play has vastly improved since the beginning of the season. Wallin hasn’t shown any improvemnet and may even have regressed. A couple times he had the puck on his stick last night in the offensive zone and he completely froze up and mishandled it.

by general borschevsky on Dec 17, 2009 10:37 AM EST reply actions

Wallin fucking sucks so badly. He is not an NHL player I am sorry. John Mitchell better get his centre spot when he is healthy.

I could see Kulemin sent down.

However, I think this move is for the Bruins game. The Leafs had difficulty in both games getting through the trap. Stalberg is fats enough to skate through the trap and put pressure on the defense.

So:

If all they’re doing to accommodate this is to rescratch Wallin (good idea), How are the lines affected? I doubt they’d call up Stalberg to play on the 4th, and I can’t see breaking up Kulemin-Primeau-Stempniak right now. Does somebody (Jason Blake) get a severe demotion into Wallin’s spot to make room?

Puns, Innuendo and Bad Spelling, Yes We Got That

by JaredFromLondon on Dec 17, 2009 11:03 AM EST up reply actions

I would move Poni down a line and see if the Grabovski-Poni-Hagman combo can start clicking like last year.

  1. Stalberg – Stajan – Kessel
  2. Poni – Grabbo – Hagman
  3. Kulemin – Primeau – Stempniak (should stay together, and I think Wilson using them on the PP last night was a statement to their work eithc)
  4. Blake – Mayers – Orr…?

Although, Ron keeps talking about Blake being the hardest working guy on the team. Demoting him doesn’t make much sense, but playing Stalberg on the 4th line isn’t exactly conducive to his strengths. I’m stumped…

I have nothing interesting to say.

what about

Stalberg – Kessel – Poni

a center’s required to play more of a two way game. i’d rather have Kessel on the wing waiting for an outlet pass than scrambling around in the d zone trying to cover the slot.

I have nothing interesting to say.

by blurr1974 on Dec 17, 2009 11:14 AM EST up reply actions

that is the biggest reason they shouldn’t be so eager to force him into the middle, I’d rather him covering d-men at the point, chipping pucks past and getting out for outlet passes, then chasing the opposing centreman all over the zone.

Hrm.

I don’t mind that with a longer view, but I’d be a bit nervous about throwing Stalberg right into the fire with the kind of minutes he’d get on Kessel’s line. Then again, maybe all the coverage Kessel draws could open the ice up a bit for Stalberg to really put his wheels to work. I don’t know. Something to think about for sure.

teams are overcommitting on Kessel, and it works because no one else can really finish like him. Stalberg has the hands, and if he’s given some extra space, he might find his scoring touch.

Sounds like they really do have a plan

to rotate all the kids through stints in the NHL. So far it’s been

Stalberg
Bozak
Hanson
Stalberg

so money that he’ll be up for a few games to peg where he’s at against the tough competition, then down again to work on it, and Bozak is back up next.

Glory glory Man United, AND the other MU, AAAAnd the Leafs. I think I need a drink now.

Bozak wont get a shot until he is back in game form. He still hasnt fully recovered from the bacon flu, his injury showed that.
He might be ready in a month or 2

I wouldn’t look into what line he’s on in practice. RW probably hasn’t decided where to play him yet.

I had a dream (seriously)

Just before my alarm woke me up this morning, I remember about a minute of a dream I was having.

I was at a poker tournament for some reason(Sundin wasn’t there, as far as I could tell)

Luke Schenn was sitting at a table playing Texas hold’em
(An aside for Arch – as he is our fashion critic) Schenn was wearing a light blue dress shirt – cut well – with a mid sized modern style collar and an understated black tie.

He had just coolly out played an opponent head to head and was quietly flirting with a blond sitting to his left.

I thought about this dream on the drive to work and I choose to analyze it thusly:

Schenn in the game – Schenn will be in the game on Friday (now confirmed)

Schenn wins the pot – we will win the game

Shenn with the girl – Schenn will score Friday night (and he might even get a goal.)

There.

Not the best dream I have ever had, but the first dream that had a hockey player in it.

The other night I dreamt that I was playing shinny at my local rink, got jobbed on a tripping call and complained to the timekeeper… who was Chris Bosh.

I have no idea what this means but dammit it wasn’t a trip.

I still win by having Wendel Clark in my party in Dragon Age. He made the Darkspawn look as pretty as Marty McSorely.
